Waterloo Stations Sold?

I have heard from a very reliable source that Bahakel will be selling it's Waterloo stations (KXEL/KOKZ/KWLO/KFMW) in the next week or two to a "big time player" in the radio industry. Cumulus already owns stations in that market...could it be Clear Channel?? Anyone hearing anything??

I heard Norton is sniffing around those properties.
There must be something to this, because I've heard it from several sources.

So last week Norton was supposedly selling KZIA, now he's supposedly buying in Waterloo? Allllllllllrightythen.

If true, this could be fairly interesting.

When this happens...do the new owners keep the same on-air staff and sales staff...or is everyone replaced??

I can see it now. 108 is so proud of being live 24/7. Wonder how it'll sound voice tracked...

Clear Channel is scrambling to push their stock up...including the possibility of a CCE sale and a major buyback. They have also begun a spinnoff of other stations. I cannot see them too concerned with buying a small radio group in Waterloo, IA. Who knows, stranger things have happened. I'm curious to know who your "very reliable source" is, though.

Why would the DJ's have to be replaced with voice tracks? Norton could call it KRNAgain or KRNAA or KRNA II and bring back the old KRNA format of the IOWANNA ROCK days and he could dredge up Tommy Lange and Bob Stewart and Monica West (he wouldn't have to look far)...all the old KRNA jocks who, by the way, have more talent in their pinkie fingers than the current KRNA staff has in the whole crew! Then the new KRNAA could take on the existing KRNA and see what kind of masacre Norton could stage!

Skeezix, maybe you and I CAN agree on something! The "special" relationship you speak of is pathetic! I disagree, however, with the fact that none of his former employees would ever work for him again. As a matter of fact, Tommy Lange applied for the night spot on Z102.9 before Chris Jackson got hired! I only know of a handful of his "exes" that wouldn't work with him again.

Yes, you do need to say more. Desperate and self-loathing aren't adjectives I would use to describe Tommy. Although, desperate is doing good things for the housewives....so maybe he would do better to be a bit desperate!

Who in their right mind would want two of whatever they are in one market? I hate to say it, but KRNA died back in '98 when it was stripped down and sent off to CR to become corporate dog food. Rock 108 has been a thorn in their side ever since. I would even guess that if Norton did want to buy Rock 108, which I don't believe is the case for even a second, he would only build off of what is already there - adding his knack for station promotion and creating a monster between KZIA and KFMW. But come on, guys, everyone knows this post was initially generated out of boredom. There is no sale.

I heard today that 3 Eagles was gonna buy that cluster.

YES!!! Please do!

True, I applied for the gig. And the guy who didn't hire me wound up out on the street the next week. (Not saying it's related, just something that made me laugh and laugh and laugh...)

I'm doing fine as news director at KCJJ. Steve and Suter-man actually seem to think I'm pretty good at it, and I've already gotten a substantial raise after just three months.
I get to do real news reporting (my first love dating back to high school) AND I can have fun being a smartass on a morning show. :)
In a lot of ways, KCJJ is what KRNA was back in the 80's: Some guys who own a radio station and have a lot of fun doing it. (Oh, and let's make money while doing it.)
Three weeks ago, a client bought a remote for the sole purpose of having us rip on the General Manager of KWPC in their own backyard. (Needless to say, he didn't get along with the guy.) I never got paid to do a remote like THAT before!

But Team Z running Rock 108...now THAT would be fun...
