Hartford/New Haven WATR 97.7/1320 update

Per a post on her Facebook Page Allison Demers will ,be co-hosting mornings with Chris Fortier beginning Monday October 9th. Demers previously worked at WRCH, WTIC , and also had a previous stint at WATR.

Also beginning Saturday October 14th WATR adds the syndicated Oldies Show Greatest Hits USA. The show will air Saturdays at 6PM. The show previously aired in this area until a couple of years ago on Kool Radio. Greatest Hits USA is also airing on WATR's sister station WARE 97.7/1250 in Massachusetts. Both stations are partly owned by Kurt Jackson.

Merely a few ~ O/T notes about WARE here, if I may .....
We DXers down by JFK Airport would get WARE on occasion around sunset, on quirky reception days. (WESO 970 in Southbridge and WTTT 1430 Amherst used to come in real loud during what were probably those conditions -- and that was with local NYC stations *on the air* on 970 and 1430.) Yet, little WARE always has resonated with me as being a unique, pleasantly sounding community local, much like WINY in Putnam CT was, or WLIS 1420 Old Saybrook.
I worked in Springfield Mass for a few years. Its local WSPR 1270 -- now WACM -- has had a north-south basically forever. So if one drove out Berkshire Blvd (Avenue?), omni WARE on 1250 was as loud in the Indian Orchard neighbourhood as WSPR was. And I.O. is completely within the city limits of Springfield!
WARE signed on, omni, a year before WSPR did. That chronology possibly required WSPR to go north-south directional, although WSPR also may have wanted to serve the Connecticut River valley conveniently.
Well, a casually frequent daytime scan of the SDR radio in Holland MA in recent times has WARE coming in very well and sounding pretty darned good. And even though it's the custom nowadays to brag on emphasizing the FM mention first, WARE is still the same music-station milieu it's always been for me, back to high school days.
