Wausau/Midwest Communications

I know it's not Milwaukee or Mad-town, but I'd like some input here.

I'm interested in the OM position for Midwest/Wausau..what can you tell me about the company in general, good and bad.

Thanks to all who give input.

rufus...
Midwest Broadcasting, to my knowledge, is still family owned and operated by Duke Wright. It is a well-manage cluster of stations that CC would love to get a hold of and I am sure Mr. Wright has had several offers to sell.
I worked at the Green Bay cluster in an on-air/production capacity about 12 years ago and guess what? About 2 years ago on my way through from the UP I stopped by to say hello. Everyone was still working there when I was there! And they had been there for a long time before I even got there. Jeff McCarthy was the operations and Program Director for WIXX (the jewel in the Green Bay crown) today, I believe he is VP of Programming. Mr. McCarthy was very supportive of his staff and generally just a fine person to work for.
In a world of flipping formats, instant ownership changeovers--Midwest Broadcasting is somewhat of an enigma. It is kind of like turning the clock back some 20-years before Big business entered and spoiled radio markets. And I have nothing but nice things to say about Mr. Wright--a true broadcaster and gentlemen in every sense of the word. He would always take time to listen to his employees and any ideas that you may have. I also fondly remember those Friday after work parties at the pub across from Lambeau Field the 50 Yard Line, where Duke would pass out cigars and just let us unwind. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he treats his employees the same way today. Mr. Wright and the managers and company as a whole are forward thinking leaders leaving other broadcasting companies envious.
If you have not already, check out the aquisitions and scale of growth the company has consistently maintained at the link below. Very impressive especially when the norm is to sell and get out.
Finally, as I delve into my 31st year in radio and running my own successful traffic-reporting service, and after nearly 2 dozen gigs in cities like Detroit, Omaha, Toledo, Rockford, Indianapolis, Chicago and Wilmington NC, I can recall maybe 2 "dream" jobs. The first one that always comes to mind? WGEE-FM and production in Green Bay.
Consider yourself very fortunate if you land over there.

Uh, Jay...

They're not THAT much of an enigma: check out how many Green Bay people are voicetracking Duluth!

Thanks for the info so far..got the materials back from them (LOVE the personality trait exam LOL)!

I appreciate the info.

Midwest grew out of Wausau. I remember calling on Mr. Wright's father back in the '60s when I worked for the power company that served them.
