Wausau, Wisconsin Quick Bandscan-REPOST

Hi guys. I posted this Friday, but inadvertently placed it in the Chicago board. My bad....which means that some of you guys probably missed it. On top of that, we pretty much veered into a discussion about how Chicago stations are doing a about 225 miles to the north-northwest. Anyway, I suggested that a moderator may want to move the thread....but until, if/when that happens, I thought you might want to take a look at my OP. And of course, if you want to see the what comments have already been made....just hop over the the Chicago board.
*************************************

Good radio in my Toyota Camry rental car. 8pm CDT (a little over an hour after sunset) Thurs March 14. Wausau, which is in the Central part of Wisconsin.

For openers, all of the 50kw Chicago blowtorches were there and alone. WYLL was the strongest....WMVP was the weakest, but all were alone and good. The surprises were WIND breaking through the splatter of 20kw WSAU on 550 just a couple of miles from me, and WNWI on 1080...also alone and quite good. Other highliguts....

600: WMT...very good.
640: WOI...good and alone
660: WFAN good
690: CINF (or whatever), fair
700: WLW fair
710: WOR usually on top in fight with KCMO
740: CFZM...absolutely blasting
760: WJR good
770: WABC fair
820: WBAP fair
830: WCCO fair
840: WHAS poor
850: KOA good
860: CJBC fair...nowhere near as good as CFZM from the same stick
870: WWL weak....which is a bit unusual
880: WCBS fair-poor
1010: CFRB-good. Blowing out a semi-local from Stevens Point, WI
1030: WBZ-fair-poor
1040: WHO-good
1070: WTSO-fair. A surprise because this one usually is quite good in "upstate, WI". Probable convergence zone
1100: WTAM-good
1120: KMOX good
1180: WHAM fair-good. Something underneath (Cuba?)
1500: KSTP weak
1510: WLAC fair-good
1530: WCKY fair
1540: KXEL good
1550: I was getting French with a good signal. Perhaps Tincap, Mimo, or someone else knows if perhaps SRC or someone else is doing something with the old CBE facility.auys....

Seems that Toyota radios, even with the in-glass antennas, have been very good recently for AM reception. I rented a Toyota Corolla for a trip to Yakima back in August of 2010. I noted a fair signal of 1320 CHMB Vancouver outside of Kirkland, WA (about 8 mi N of Bellevue). The FM was incredible as well, pulling in 140 mi DX and Pilot Rock, OR on 92.1 right next to blaster KDNA 91.9...

I'm surprised 750 WSB isn't in the log. The last time I travelled through Wisconsin at night, WSB was like a local from the outskirts of Chicago until Minneapolis, and again the next night on the drive back from Fargo through northern Minnesota. It was surprisingly strong and fade free.

WSB has been weaker than usual lately. Not sure if that's because of conditions, or if they're having issues. I also thought it was weaker than normal last month when I was in your part of the world. What also might have been affecting things is that it was sandwiched between two strong signals from CFZM and WJR. I did hear it, however. Just not very well.

And crainbebo....I'm not much of an FM DXer....but the Toyota radio was an excellent performer when I flipped over to that band. Antenna was the short "shark fin base and short whip" style. I was also having fun connecting my iPhone and streaming audio to the radio via bluetooth. 3 days and about 600 miles of driving around Wisconsin. Milwaukee-Madison-Milwaukee.

And without a single stop for bratwurst or cheese curds.
