.wav oldies libraries

Folks, we've recently gone to Simian and am rebuilding our entire library using .wav files exclusively. We've had to abandon thousands of .mp3 files, and we're missing several formats. We especially need 50's, 60's and 70's files. 'Radio-mall.com' seems to use mp3 files. Is there anything out there comparable? We're also needing classic country .wav files as well. THANKS IN ADVANCE for all the help you may provide!

(ITunes? amazon.com? others?)

Greg

itunes and amazon will both be mp3, itunes protects their files, nothing will play them.

Your pretty SOL.
Wav files are large, therefor not really used on the internet much anymore.

The only way to really get a wav now is from a CD.

Honestly, no one will really be able to tell the difference from a 128 kbps MP3 versus a wav file. Especially on an oldies format. (I use MP3, sounds great and takes up less space)

Have you thought about using a program like razorlame to mass change those mp3 back to WAV? Not difficult at all and you can keep the mp3 stored as backup.

Thanks, gentlemen. Much appreciated! Butlerguy, I'll be sure to check out your suggestion.

BTW, a show we're planning on resuming is 'Nashville's New Country,' which does send .wav files. Also, 'newmusicserver.com' has the .wav option. I was hoping more would. As to CD's, I bought three at F.Y.E. last Saturday, two of which were 'New Jersey Doo Wop' tunes. Good stuff!

Absolutely DO NOT do this. The only benefit would be if BSI used ONLY wav's, which I do not believe is the case.
There is absolutely no advantage to converting MP3 to WAV. All you are doing is creating a clone of the MP3 at the expense of a much larger filesize. No audio benefit whatsoever.

I agree, in fact, I think it's been said that anything over 192 for analog radio is a waste, right? I'll be the first to admit I am a programmer, not an audio engineer. However, I use this free program (razorlame) to change audio from WAV to MP3 and I know it has the reverse function available.

Great source for an all-wav gold library is:

www.uncompressedmusic.com/

Dave Scott (the former Scott Studios owner) is the fellow behind it. You just select the songs you want from an alpha list on his site, and depending upon the number of cuts, he either uploads them to a server, a thumb drive or a USB drive. Copy them into your system and you're done. Quality is excellent. I think he charges a buck a cut.

You may want to contact Dave Dworkin at Radio-Mall.com as I believe he is the holder of the Halland Broadcast music libraries. I know he has all CD libraries and would bet he would be able to supply it in WAV format.

Converting the file to MP3 permanently destroys the audio data, this is what makes the file smaller. If you use any program to convert MP3s to WAV, you don't actually get any benefit: the audio data is already gone, so you get the quality of an MP3 at a much larger file size. Do not do this.

That is correct. Once the file is an MP3, that is the way is stays. The same goes for converting lower bit MP3 to a higher bit MP3. (like 128 to 320) There is no advantage to that. However, you can convert backwards from 320 to 256 or 128... but why? At that juncture, you would notice the loss.
