WAVE 3.2/WLKY 32.2

I noticed a movie channel called "THIS" landed on 3.2 for a couple of days, then moved over to 32.2; WAVE's Weather Plus has disappeared from 3.2.

I don't see anything on WLKY 32.2. They are only broadcasting their main channel in the digital format. "This" tv on WAVE's 3.2 channel broadcasts mostly movies, though starting at 5am they broadcast an hour of "Mister Ed" and "Patty Duke". This afternoon (Sunday) they have been playing a Mr. Wong serial with Boris Karloff from the late 1930s. The local weather channel from WAVE is now on 3.3.

I don't remember what day it was, but one day this past week my TV (or Insight) got confused and was actually showing WAVE's Weather Plus on 32.2

That may be the case, but at this time I just have rabbit ears.

It's time to re-scan your digital TV tuners...WHAS-DT and WLKY-DT have lit up their 11.2 and 32.2 channels, respectively. WHAS-DT has full-field color bars up, while WLKY-DT is repeating the 32.1 main feed, and will probably start out with NCAA basketball tournament alternate feeds come game time.

Perhaps another weather service and/or Retro Television Network (RTN) in the plans?

Thats the best, clearest, test pattern I've ever seen on 11.2! As for 32.2 today, at 12:58 I saw the ending credits for Y & R, and yet on 32.1 was a commerical. Then it seemed both channels were airing the same program (Access Hollywood) after 1pm. What have they been airing on 32.2?

Also should the subchannels be referred to as a . (dot) or a - (dash)? My remote has a dash.

Once this DTV changeover is completed, I wonder how many folks will still have problems receiving Louisville DTV signals? WAVE will lose a full third of their OTA coverage when they shut down analog on Ch 3. I have emailed the folks at WAVE about what were they thinking when they decided to put their Digital signal on Ch47 on a MUCH LOWER tower. I have gotten no response from them.

Check out these maps and figures comparing WAVE-TVs Analog vs Digital coverage:

http://www.fcc.gov/dtv/markets/maps_report2/Louisville_KY.pdf

I live in SW Lexington where I have a VHF/UHF antenna with rotor up 55 ft and get two Louisville area Digital stations 100% of the time (Channels 34 and 21). I also see Ch 32 about 25% of the time.... NEVER see digital signals from WAVE or WHAS, but I understand WHAS will be moving their DTV signal to Channel 11 immediately after they shut down the analog signal on 11.

Anyone care to speculate on what programming will permanently live on 11.2 and 32.2? I see someone competing with WAVE-DT's successful re-launch of a local weather channel on 3.3, and another bringing the Retro Television Network's lineup of classic episodic TV shows to the market.

Of course, in WLKY-DT's case, they almost certainly will kick off 32.2 with the alternate CBS-TV sports feed of the NCAA Men's Division I basketball tournament made available to them. (As opposed to the primary feed intended for WLKY-TV 32 analog and DT 32.1.)

Got to give WAVE-TV/DT credit...they got out in front on DTV multicasting and are doing it well. After all, one of the big promises made by the TV industry in order to get Congressional approval for the digital switch was that the subchannels would be used for alternate programming. Good to see stations finally stepping up. By the way, I wonder what the GM's and PD's of the NBC-TV affiliates in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Dayton and Lexington really think about the large slice of coverage WAVE will relinquish on June 12. Think they're happy? Oh, yes!

So, what's with WDRB-DT/ WMYO-DT? Will they get up and start using their subchannels anytime soon?
