WAVH "The Pirate" to be sold

By MIKE BRANTLEYTV & Media Editor from AL.com

A year after ditching its former "Oldies 106" moniker for a new identity, delivering music from "the '70s, the '80s and whatever we want," local radio station WAVH-FM 106.5, "The Pirate," is being sold to a Mobile businessman for $3.6 million.

The deal between current owner Barry Wood of Baldwin Broadcasting Co. and prospective new owner Donald Bigler of Bigler Broadcasting Co. awaits approval from the Federal Communications Commission.

That approval is expected within two to three months, Wood and Bigler said this week.

Bigler is stepfather of radio announcer Sean Sullivan, who until this week was a morning disc jockey on Mobile's WZEW-FM 92.1, popularly known as "92 Zew."

Sullivan, a 10-year veteran of the local airwaves, said Friday he will go to work at WAVH in six months. A non-compete agreement with his former employer, WZEW owner Dotcom Plus, will keep him off the air that long, he said.

He did not say what role he will fill at WAVH.

"I know I will be doing radio," Sullivan said. "You can't keep me off the radio."

Sullivan resigned his job at WZEW following his Oct. 2 broadcast, ending a 10-year run

And it'll STILL be locally owned, which I like.
