Agree wholeheartedly. Good signal, good coverage, nighttime power. All it would take is some hands-on ownership with the tech-savviness to run it on the cheap. It can be done with the right person with money.

Good. The station is just yet another automated radio station joke. I'd love to know how many actual listeners they have. What's the point of operating an all syndication low signal AM station? Plus, all of the talk shows they run can easily be heard much more clear online and via the TuneIn Radio app and played at home or in people's cars as they drive around. Even their weather is some automated junk voice of some guy who is clearly not in the studio. I did a search for WAVL and actually found some "radio manager" from their station wrote a testimonial about how great this company's weather automation is. Seriously, if you can't provide ANY original programming, you should be off the air.
I used to tune in on my way to work to catch some Dave Ramsey at 3 PM, but on some days I notice that the news and weather run and either Dave is delayed for a long time, or never played. A station automated by idiots and that sits on dead air for that long is a joke. No one seems to be monitoring the station or caring. They were probably at Sheetz getting an MTO or listening to a real radio show. Again, it should be off the air. No need for that crap in an era of FM talk stations and internet streaming. Who wants to listen to muffled AM sound? By the way, WAVL is so lame that it doesn't even have an online stream.
One final thing. I noticed that the only ads that they play are on the newscasts and sometimes syndicated shows. The rest are all PSAs. I doubt those guys even have a sales department. It makes you wonder how much the church takes out of the Sunday collection to run this disaster of a radio station.

To be fair, I think they're actually aware of most of these things, and realize they can't justify it anymore. They want to sell it, but there aren't exactly a lot of buyers lurking around for properties like these.
Personally I grew up in that immediate area and have a couple of ideas that I think would work there but this isn't the right time for me to try it.

So did I. I grew up in the Kiski Valley. It's not a strong area economically, which is why it has to be run on the cheap by a hands-on operator who's not afraid of hard work. Those aren't easy to come by anymore.
Not sure if it means the station has been sold (no record of a sale yet on the FCC website) but the conservative talk shows are gone and they are playing Christian music with local announcers.
It's not contemporary Christian like K-Love or what WAVL itself used to play, it's much more traditional sounding.
They are also still running some make-good spots from the national shows.

WAVL's signal came in so poorly in McKeesport today that I wondered if in fact it was WAVL. There was a talk show on and I initially thought I might be DXing WSBA in York or some other co-channel station. The talk show turned out to be something from the Family Research Council until 6 p.m. when a mix of religious music and Scripture came on. It aired until approximately 6:30 p.m. If there was more I could not tell as I no longer could pull in the signal around my house. Website still touts a Motor Racing Network broadcast scheduled Sunday and the local headlines looked like they could be today's reports, but the national headlines dated from months ago and no stock market figure was available. There also is no mention of WAVL on the Evangel Heights website. I will be closer to WAVL's tower tomorrow and hope for a better report.

I picked up the station on I-80 near Clarion yesterday. I think it gets out better to the north.

Good idea. Now they own Armstrong County. It's a market that few people want, and Croyle and Company serve it well with TYM.
