WAVN 1240 is now Spanish

I mean to post this a few days ago when I first noticed but forgot.

so now there is Spanish on 1240, 1030, 96.1 and also on 830 KOTC which covers Memphis pretty well during the day.

Don't forget those all-Spanish weekends on KWAM.

Ole!

... and while we are on the subject, let's not forget that Memphis now has an over-the-air Spanish TV station.

W15CH, a pretty robust LPTV, made the switch to Spanish from home shopping a few weeks back. The station, which covers the metro pretty darn well, is running a Mexican TV network from Monterrey, a huge metropolis in NE Mexico.

With Memphis' clearly large Hispanic population, one wonders why we have no Spanish to speak of on cable. Where is Sábado Gigante?!

Looks like another Flinn AM got LMA'd. What's the scorecard look like now. The only sticks that he truly operates are Hot, HBQ AM & FM. Is that right?

FYI, KOTC 830 is no longer spanish....in fact it has been silent for a month...with a CP to move to Memphis. Memphis really needs another radio station. LOL ::)

Does Memphis have a sizeable Hispanic population? I've gotten the impression from my many, many visits to the area that the Hispanic population is a little smaller than other comparable metro areas.

Interesting to note the two APPS for the move; one location seems to be the 1070 site north of Memphis (or is that 1030?) and the other, Google puts it in someone's yard just south of the Cordova Country Club. Looks like there may be a tower site near some baseball fields just north of Macon Road. Maybe that's what it's supposed to be?

its near the 1070 site but actually on the other side of Watkins to the SW.
I can't imagine the Germantown TX site will happen.. Real Estate out there cost too much.

Metro Memphis is about 2.36% Hispanic or Latino (meaning not just Mexican).
The city of Memphis it 2.97% Hispanic or Latino.

The Metro area is 1,236,000
The city alone is 650,000
