I know a lot of stations used to pitch up, especially when they wanted to sound different than a competing station. But WAYV could have stopped this annoying practice back in 1996. There is no good reason for them to be doing this. And while I understand that a lot of stations used to do it, I don't think they were playing the songs quite this fast. WAYV sounds ridiculous. Especially considering some record companies already pitch up slightly when they're editing some songs for the radio mix. I've never heard a station do it quite as noticeably. I find it hard to believe that any pop music fan from other cities hears the songs on WAYV and doesn't notice that something is wrong.
Also...when I tested WAYV out one afternoon last week, I kept feeling like they were playing unusual mixes of some of the songs. I wish I could remember which songs in particular. But several of them were not what I'm hearing on the internet or on stations in other cities. I guess as long as there's no competition, they can pretty much do whatever they want. Weird stuff though.
