WAXQ HD-2 OFF :(

as most of you know I listen to q-104.3 HD-2 all the time. It is off this morning. I called them. I tried to get a hold of engineering. The secretary said it was a programming thing and that all the HD channels are off. Sure enough all of the Clear channels HD stations are working except Q's this morning. Any idea whats up. This is the only station with Active Rock for the CT area for we don't get WRAT, WDHA, or WSOU in SW CT and I really like the Jocks on it. for some odd reason I can't stand the RNR internet stream because it does not sound the same without the Local imaging of the q-104.3 guy

already Tried. WFOX is too strong here for WRAT 99% of the time. WPKN is too strong for WSOU, sometimes I get lucky. WDBY-1 from the top of Danbury Hospital is on currently so WDHA can't come in

The HD of WLTW is also off now.
I don't know if that is related. It is all too common for HD signals to be off the air for days or even weeks.
WWPR's HD was down for a couple of weeks last month.
I wish WLTW HD2 would return to country, at least till there is some clear indication whether a translator for the signal can be operated within New York. Putting a different format on WLTW HD2 every day can't be pleasing many listeners.

It happens all the time. I'll bet hardly anybody notices and even fewer complain.

The best use for HD Radio would be to lease the subchannels to the usual usupects, namely ethnic broadcasters whose audiences actually seek out the equipment to hear their stations, or religious broadcasters who always seem to have the cash to get their shows on the air no matter how disadvantaged the signal.

Or lease them to some of those pirates whose businesses are booming, in exchange for getting them off the unauthorized FM frequencies.

Or lease one to WKXW so they can extend their coverage into north Jersey and reach their commuter listeners who work in the the city.

So many creative ways to go yet no creative thinking to be found.

But the fact of the matter is that HD Radio is not yet visible enough for acceptance by most od the radio audience, and probably won't ever be.

And that is why EMF paid what they paid for the license of 96.7 FM.

There are plenty of ethnic/religious groups willing to take more marginal signals though. Just look at the FM translator scene. An HD subchannel could be an even better alternative for them, especially the ethic broadcasters. Remember a lot of ethnic operators were successful at selling SCA receivers to their target audiences, so going to an HD subchannel where listeners can buy a receiver off the shelf with far less effort would be like a step up for them. And there's so much opportunity to reach such specialized audiences around NYC. Those are the people who will put up satellite dishes or do whatever it takes to get programming that speaks to them.

WAXQ's HD-2 is back up and running :)

Perhaps these CC HD's are down for power upgrades now allowed by FCC. At present, only 2 stations have been operating at the higher power, WRKS and WBLS. I'm sure a station secretary or receptionist wouldn't really be in the loop on this.

The HDs go off the air randomly. Right now Power 105 is not in HD.

Imagine if the analog signal was as unreliable as the HD signal.
