I checked out WAXQ-HD1 last week in the car, and it sounds a bit distorted. Not unlistenable perhaps, but not good either. Then I listened to the HD2, which is WOR radio. THAT was unlistenable, and actually sounded much worse than the AM signal. Artifacts up the wazoo.
It’s not the radio, because I’ve never noticed audio this bad on other HDs, but I’m also not usually listening to HD radio at all.
This afternoon I listened on a SDR ant home, and the WAXQ-HD2 feed is still awful. The software says they’re only
using about 30 kbps, which seems like the ballpark number that the other HD2’s in NY are encoding their HD2’s at. Granted, this afternoon WOR is running paid programming, but the local news sounded lousy also.
Can anyone here confirm what I’m hearing? If it really sounds this bad, why bother?
