WAXQ plays STP!!!!

WAXQ plays Stone Temple Pilots 15ish year old song "Plush" tonight at 8:00PM. (After Bad Company's Bad Company). Thank you WAXQ for nincorporating a true classic, and I hope to hear more Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and other classic alternative in the future!

marko, I gotta tell you. There was a time when I'd change the station when Plush came on, but now, I know never to take what was once classified as alternative for granted.

you are excited to hear plush? that's just sad

Remember, this is New York City, home to many Soft Rock and Urban stations that sound practically identical, and not even one station that plays current Rock songs. No one wants to give it a try, including CBS, which actually thought that a lame Blink rehash would do better than an Active or Alternative Rocker. Yes, it's gotten so bad that people actually are excited to hear STP, Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Jack FM plays that song every so often, a COUPLE of Alice in Chains songs, and Pearl Jam. I haven't really listened to Q104.3 in a while. I guess between Free FM's Free Rock Weekends and the wide variety of rock Jack plays, CBS isn't interested enough to create a station fully geared to rock (also to consider they DID drop their rock station).

nyc needs a station like WMMR, modern and classic rock....

When "Plush" first came out in the early '90s, it was the most mainstream-rock sounding song to ever get airplay on alternative radio at that time. It is the exact point of reference for the beginning of the muddiness of the term "alternative" rock relative to mainstream rock. Alternative radio wouldn't have touched "Plush" in the 80's. I was there, both 80's and 90's; I remember.

What about stations like WDHA amd WHTG? Are their signals unlistenable in NYC?

You can get those stations in parts but most of NYC can't get them, as the signals don't make it everywhere and most crummy consumer-grade stereos would only get the big signals anyway. 105.5 and 106.3 probably come in best in SW Brooklyn...areas like Bay Ridge, as well as Staten Island. 105.5 also actually comes in fairly well in Eastern Queens towards Nassau county as there's less bleed from 105.1 and 105.9 from ESB (which is also a weaker signal despite being on the ESB). All in all not enough to get anything more than a few insignificant fringe listeners, I'd say.
