WAXY 105.9 aircheck - 1978

Always was a gr8 call sign.
Only had a chance to listen to the first few minutes so far, first thought was, "Kentucky Fried Chicken", not KFC.

I remember there was a radio station with a call letter like this at 105.5 that played Dixieland in the mid to late-80's.
I picked it up well in the Southwest Florida Ft. Myers/Lehigh Acres area.
It's now "105.5 The Beat".

The station you remember went by the name WIXY 105. I don't recall the exact call letters anymore. It was based in Naples and played Big Band/Music of your Life type format. Later on it played 70's music. It was sold off by the local interests that originally had it to Clear Channel. CC at first made it into a country format that primarily catered to a younger crowd. It's real purpose was to serve as a flanker to Cat Country against Gator Country. We all know just how well that worked out. Gator ended up eating Cat for lunch and 105.5 became "The Beat" which it has remained for a number of years now.

I remember a story about WIXI 105.5 when they flipped to all '70s - something about they put YMCA on repeat as part of the flip, and a little old lady thought the DJ had a heart attack and dialed 911!

Did anyone pick up on the contest rules, "send us your name, address & social security number" -- that would never happen today because of potential identity theft issues!
