WAXY's little black box ?

I remember Rick Shaw at WAXY saying on air the WAXY's music sounded better because of the little black box they were using. Anybody remember this. I had a Sanyo Boombox at the time so I couldn't hear the difference.

I don't remember that but I'd chalk it up to "Theatre of the mind". I had a nice stereo system and I don't remember them sounding any different than any other station. Most of the radio stations in those days were in a fight to be the loudest which was a very AM way of thinking. Louder didn't always sound better!

RKO did put a lot of money into WAXY. The station always seemed to have a freash batch of new toys. They bought more gear than any station I have every seen.
