WAY-FM Media Group has just bought two FM signals recently. One is WJNF Marianna Florida and the other is WLRX Louisville Kentucky. WJNF is between Tallahassee and Dothan but doesnt really offer a signal to those 2 markets. WLRX serves the northern part of the Louisville maket. WJNF offers a similar format already and WLRX is a simlucast of a modern rocker. I wonder what other moves WAY FM has up it sleves.

I wish the Way FM format was a little more edgy but I really do like the musical flow on WAY over K-Love. (nothing against K-Love.. Just to soft for me), so I am really glad to see WAY expand.

I can see why Way-FM was interested in WJNF, especially at that price. WAYT had to go directional with a null to the west to protect WJNF. This might allow them to go non-directional, which might help them a bit in Tallahassee (with a corresponding power reduction in Marianna). It might also be possible to upgrade WJNF to provide some Panama City coverage.

WAY-FM is also signing on a new station in Colorado Springs, CO very soon. It is KXWY 90.9. The website is KXWY.WAYFM.COM.

I'm trying to fiqure out where WAY-FM gets their signal coverage information. The transmitter for KXWY Rye Colorado is just west of the city of license and at FCC.GOV it shows Pueblo in the 60dBu coverage area but not Colorado Springs. KXWA has a Manitou Springs translator on 90.9 which serves Colorado Springs but that is bound to leave when KXWY signs on. Then again Loveland Colorado licensed KXWA doesn't really cover Denver with a 60dBu signal either and they call it Denver's Way FM.
I'm pretty sure they are aware of their coverage issues on these and some of their other stations. Since real coverage and predicted coverage can vary a lot, especially in mountainous areas, they may be better off than things look on paper. But even if not, full-market signals are expensive, so they probably figure half a loaf is better than none at all.
Remember too, that many of their listeners don't live in the center of the city, anyway. Downtown might be 40-50 miles from the transmitter, but the 'burbs where much of their target demographic lives may only be 20-30 miles away and receive an acceptable signal. If not, a translator can fix the problem at a fairly low cost.

A good kidney shaped signal off a mountain can put a strong 50 to 59 dbu coverage over a metro below and that equals 90% or better reception on radios in the heart of the city/metro... ie...LA and north San Diego... I think we used to call them 'ridgerunners' that put a good non-city/metro grade into a populated area...

WAY-FM has made more Christians into DX'ers than any other Christian network. I knew of dozens in Orlando before WPOZ came on the air. Big antennas aimed at Ft Meyers ---
That's true in the far reaches.. I remember when Wolf and Cardascia would listen, call and then come down and crash on my apartment floor for a weekend of 'way fun' and the beach..... 8)

Regarding the Colorado Springs station, which just signed on Friday, they are using both the Rye, CO site and the Manitou Springs translator to cover the area. The main signal covers Pueblo and south of Colorado Springs well while the translator covers the heart of Colorado Springs. A very cleaver setup indeed, since both the main signal and translator are both on 90.9. It's almost like having an on-channel booster outside of the main coverage area.
WAY-FM has a translator that just signed on today in Jackson, TN, but is currently carrying WYNU 92.3 in the Jackson area. I'm hoping that this is just temporary until they can get things set up permanently for WAY-FM. The primary station should be WAYW 89.9 in New Johnsonville. I've been hoping for years that WAY-FM would come into Jackson somehow and it is hopefully very close now.
They have a similar situation with a translator in Martin, TN that is coming and appears to be carrying WCMT 101.3 in Martin at least on a temporary basis. There were also some other CPs that they had in West TN that appear to have lapsed.

Apparently WAY-FM won't be coming to Jackson or Martin because they've sold those translators. I should have waited about posting this until I had more information, and I apologize for it. I'm very disappointed in this but not surprised. I just hope that WAY-FM will find some way to expand into the Jackson area in the future.
Why would WAY have been interested in Jackson in the first place? It seems that the market is saturated with CCM. They have AFR on 88.1 & 88.7. KLove has a LPFM and there is The Dove on 93.7. I would have probably sold the translator too.
