Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Just what the ville needs another christian rock station but some of the music is not bad but that makes 4 christian rock stations here. Wjie, the river, air one,way fm. Didn't know christian rock was in such high demand.
105.1 use to be soft christian favorites.

I guess it took so long to go on the air for the exorcism to take place to cleanse of the old format on 104.3 lol

Good luck with it way to go ;D

Throwing holy water tends to short out consoles.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

As you splash holy water on the transmitter and say "The power of the commission compels you".

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Do they have to dip their microphone fingers in Holy Water before they do a break? Or perhaps gargle Holy Water?

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

There is NO WAY (no pun intended) that this market will support 4 christian radio stations... some one has to go to Christian Radio Heaven...

Who's going to Heaven first? It won't be WJIE.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

I bet the river will be put out to pasture because of salem more then likely selling there properties here in the lovely ville. 105.9 there best format was Q2 a well programmed(except for the voice tracking)alternative station. But if voice tracking is what i have to put up with for a good alt station so be it but i digress i think it will be the river going away.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

4 CCM stations here can survive. it's not like they're all beating each other up for a huge ratings share or anything.

it's not always about the money; often, it's more about the mission

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

They're all not beating each other up for ratings, but they will be for $$$$$$. When it comes time for share-a-thons and pledge drives, all the listeners will be flat broke!

LOL. Not true. The River is a commercial station.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Being an ol' Way-Fm'er (their first hire in '87 from outside Fort Myers)... Way would not be going into the "Ville" unless they see an opening to carve out a substantial niche.. This is their first commercial license and they got it for a steal! Matt and company will do a bang up job and from my observations of what is going on in the market, here is my take... Salem makes no bones about bowing out of this market.. They want to divest and concentrate on top 25 or 30 sized metros... Way will easily take that role... WJIE has moved to doing a mix of music, specialty shows, and teaching ministries... K-Love is there with the main signal to the north and the excellent translator in the center of Louisville...BUT, they are not local... Way will mix their national bird programming with local promotions and move to more local programming as support grows.... And I chuckle when non-CCM folk call it Christian Rock... Sorry, it's straight ahead Christian CHR....I does lack the urban that was in the format from 1987 to 1997.... But that is due to some politics in the music industry (from several sides) that has seen urban sounds move back to more traditional Black Gospel Formats and no compelling pleas from the major CCM labels to court them back to the main CCM fold.....

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

No Total Axxess right now? I guess the "40 days and 40 nights" is supposed to be along the lines of Louie FM's jockless launch.

As far as Christian Top 40s that truly target the mainstream Top 40 sound, ChargeRadio.com and Acaza.com are really the only ones left doing it-WNAZ and WONU have basically pruned all their rhythmic music, and KAFC has flipped to Christian AC.

WJIE will last as long as Evangel World Prayer Center (via Evangel Christian Schools) exists. They will gladly scoop up all of the River's listeners if Salem sells.

Air1 has the most to lose with the flea-powered signals, especailly if someone figures out how to move WITZ/Jasper, IN (104.7 FM) into Louisville.

Problem I find is that most of the Christian Rhy/HipHop/Rap does not always have the same quality as the Top40 counterpart. I would suspect that NAZ and ONU are just giving the listeners what they want and what will keep them viable financially.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Another thing I've noticed is that WAYI is playing no currents. If it weren't for the occasional Switchfoot, Relient K, or Jeremy Camp song that never made it at AC, I might as well be listening to K-Love.

Also, I negelcted to mention that WAYK and WAYG (coincidentaly called "WAY FM") are still mixing in some ryhthmic music. Matt, I'd think you be surprised at the advances Christian Hip Hop and R&B have made over the last two years. A lot of it isn't coming from the major labels.

WAYK/WAYG while using the name WAYFM are way different then the WAYFM group owned stations (with the exception of the Denver Way that leans torwards rock).

I agree a lot of the rhy stuff is coming along, and I didnt mean to say that there is none out there but I think like we have seen Christian AC and Rock come along over the years, Hiphop from Christian artists will only improve.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Although, they tend to be more Christian Rock leaning, KRNG-FM in Nevada is another Christian CHR that adds some Rhythmic songs at times. They live stream at renegraderadio.com. Speaking of Christian CHR, does anyone remember the low-power Christian CHR "WJYL: Joy-FM" in late 1994 and early 1995? It was on 88.3 FM in New Washington, IN with a translator on 104.7 FM in New Albany. This was a Christian CHR which was identical to the mainstream CHR because they play Christian Rock, Christian Pop, Christian Hip/Hop and Rhythmic and some Christian Dance. The owners received some great response. But, they weren't able to present a strong enough signal to receive any financial stability.

I understand that Salem is in the process of selling their Christian AC outlet in Milwaukee. WRVI may be the next to go. Salem of Louisville has recently upgraded the websites of WGTK-AM and WFIA-FM with a live stream, and etc. However, they have not touched WRVI's website or on-air presence in a while. If Salem has any desire to keep WRVI, they may want to consider a Christian format that is currently not heard on the other stations. For example, they may consider a softer Christian AC/Inspirational approach similar to WXLN-FM 105.1 in the late 90's, a Contemporary Praise & Worship format or maybe a Contemporary Gospel format. Although, I seriously doubt the latter because Salem has never programmed that format in any other market.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Why would Salem sell the only commercial christian AC in the market?

WRVI isn't the only commercial christian a/c station in the market now.. you've got WAY-FM...Louisville is WAY-FM's first commercial property...
