Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Although, they tend to be more Christian Rock leaning, KRNG-FM in Nevada is another Christian CHR that adds some Rhythmic songs at times. They live stream at renegraderadio.com. Speaking of Christian CHR, does anyone remember the low-power Christian CHR "WJYL: Joy-FM" in late 1994 and early 1995? It was on 88.3 FM in New Washington, IN with a translator on 104.7 FM in New Albany. This was a Christian CHR which was identical to the mainstream CHR because they play Christian Rock, Christian Pop, Christian Hip/Hop and Rhythmic and some Christian Dance. The owners received some great response. But, they weren't able to present a strong enough signal to receive any financial stability.

I understand that Salem is in the process of selling their Christian AC outlet in Milwaukee. WRVI may be the next to go. Salem of Louisville has recently upgraded the websites of WGTK-AM and WFIA-FM with a live stream, and etc. However, they have not touched WRVI's website or on-air presence in a while. If Salem has any desire to keep WRVI, they may want to consider a Christian format that is currently not heard on the other stations. For example, they may consider a softer Christian AC/Inspirational approach similar to WXLN-FM 105.1 in the late 90's, a Contemporary Praise & Worship format or maybe a Contemporary Gospel format. Although, I seriously doubt the latter because Salem has never programmed that format in any other market.

I've been scanning the dials a lot lately and haven't heard any jocks on Way Fm yet. I've also heard a guy called Andrew Jay Barbo on WRVI everyday.

I also heard Tony Vanetti doing middays on QMF. I also hear Mel doing traffic and voice tracking her shift on QMF at the SAME time!

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

One more thing. Where is KentuckyMedia??? I would like to know if he knows anything new about Salem selling in Louisville.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Well tony vanetti is off the fox websight and on wqmf. Why i wonder? I really liked him on the fox for 90s at noon. I dislike classic rock so will not be listening. I wonder if the fox is live anymore at anytime?.Anything to save a buck thanks clear channel. Way fm just went on the air usually new stations do not add jocks for awhile. I remember when wlrs went back on the air at 102.3 in 1997 it was quite sometime before they added talent.

Why would Salem sell the only commercial christian AC in the market?

WRVI isn't the only commercial christian a/c station in the market now.. you've got WAY-FM...Louisville is WAY-FM's first commercial property...

WAYI isn't going to be commercial, nor is it an AC (it's a CHR). If you go to wayi.wayfm.com, they are clearly soliciting donations the same way they do on all their other stations-even the FAQ is the same regarding the distinction between for-profit and not-for profit Impact Partners.

They yanked ALL of us off about 6 weeks ago. Charlie Steele lobbied for having some kind of voice on the air and they are allowing us to record liners that run in a rotation similar to commercials. I also record "Rock News" stories that rotate throughout the week. The way it works is, current ends, pre recorded liner/rock news comes out of the tune (no backsell of artist or title) straight into the stop set. Sounds like crap. Watch the trends go up now, lol.

4 CCM stations here can survive. it's not like they're all beating each other up for a huge ratings share or anything.

it's not always about the money; often, it's more about the mission

It's a business. And while the mission might be a noble one, it won't pay the bills.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Remember, just because you are a non-profit, with a commercial license, you can mix your support as WSOR did for years when it was 95.3 in Fort Myers.. That's where Bob Augsburg started his CCM show on that Inspo station in the 80's.... 45% came from ads and 55% came from support.. I assure you WAY will look at all options.. They are going to image, first to set the thing in motion.... Then they will determine what direction to fine tune in support base... They also research before going into a market.. Hint.. They have a good idea of what's getting ready to go down on both sides of the ditch.... Salem has made many statements to the national radio brokrage firms that they are looking to downsize and concentrate on top 25 to 30 markets.. Louisville is in the 50's.... ("2" + "2"=????)... Just foder for you...

Good point. WQFL, 100.9 in Rockford, IL does the same thing. When I worked there in the 80s their income was about 1/3 commercials, 1/3 donation, and 1/3 programs. (Many religious programs pay radio stations to carry their programs.)

Let's face it, if a station can legally sell commercials they would be foolish not to.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

Is "Don't Miss . . ." considered a call to action? I heard a spot for the Skillet/Decyfer Down concert at Headliners on 2/5/08 on WAYI this evening on my way to small group. I actually hadn't heard anything on-air regarding the Casting Crowns show in March.

WAY-FM is also running drops from listeners in Indiana.

Re: Way fm is on the air guys and gals

William..
It does qualify.. But, again, a non-profit that owns a commercial license CAN run call to action spots and sell advertising to for-profit retailers... ie...Greg's mention of long running WQFL in Rockford and the former commercial frequency of WSOR in Fort Myers, before going high powered non-com and selling to Moody... :D
