Who is paying these rediculous sums of money for what are essentially small market stations?
 
Brings to mind the old Barron's Magazine commercial: [Stations] are bought by someone who is convinced their value is about to go up and sold by someone who is convinced their value is about to go down. It is not inconceiveable, I suppose, that the purchasers of these stations actually believe that these properties quickly will become more valuable than they are today. I wonder, though, if sometimes stations are not acquired strictly for their effect on a company's tax liability. Cynic that I can be ....
 
Thats quite a bit of money for WBMZ/WHCG, considering there studio is a double wide trailer at the transmitter/tower site on the east side of town........
 
People paying stupid sums of money like this for stations like these makes it harder to purchase a station for it's actual value. "He got 4 million for his, why can't I for mine"? That kinda thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for your friend Jay for getting that for his radio stations, however how long will it take him to repay the debt with the advertising revenue down there? And how much must he bill a month to service just the debt?
 
Is it possible that the real estate these stations are sitting on is what is driving the seemingly inflated market value? It could be that these purchasers aren't buying these stations to operate, only to dismantle and sell off the land.
