We all know Northeast Ohio has 2 less than spectacular CHR stations. Q92 in Alliance and HOT 101 in Youngstown.

HOT has recently been talked about on this board for it's rather weird and pointless contests. But at least WHOT PD John Trout comes up with original stuff. The same can't be said for the PD of our other lackluster CHR.

I happened to find myself on Q92 tonight as I drove around. I heard the female jock on the air conducting a contest for a Cherry Monroe fly-away.
The caller got the new CD from the band and was qualified for the grand prize drawing Monday morning...a trip to Los Angeles for the Cherry Monroe CD release party at the Viper Room.
The caller was asked to tell the audience in 10 words or less, why they were the biggest fan of the band, and the best fan would win the trip.

This all sounded very familiar.

Could be because...WKDD DID PRACTICALLY THE SAME CONTEST IN THE WEEK PRIOR.
All week long, I heard WKDD jocks talking about going to the stations website and submitting an essay as to why you were the biggest Cherry Monroe fan. Best essay won the trip to LA for the Viper Room release party.

Way to go John Stewart. Rip off WKDD's contest. And didn't even do a good job.
Truly sad.
Is it THAT hard to come up with some original stuff? If it is, you should NOT be a Program Director.
I hope your voice guy was thanking Keith Kennedy in the promos for the contest, if you actually ran any new ones. Probably still running the ones for the cash contest WKDD did in March.
Good Lord.

Hey Donnie, SELL TO SOMEBODY ALREADY SO THEY CAN TORCH THE HELLHOLE IN THE CORNFIELD!

I find myself reluctant to respond to your post - I have recognized serious angst toward Q92 on this board in the 13 months I have been at the station.
I can accept constructive critism... the fact is, KDD got the same trip from the same source... the end result is a cool trip for a fan - both of the station and the band... just as the end result of this post is that you were listening...

Welcome, Charlotte!

Your station indeed seems to get a lot of "play" on here, most of it not very favorable. It got to the point once that any message like this would be automatically deleted. (That may still happen.)

I'm not really a CHR creature, and 92.3 is actually dominant enough in my part of the Akron area to make 92.5 scratchy. So, I don't really follow WZKL at all. I think some of it may be that A) many of your people do read this board regularly, including your PD, and 2) it's believed by some that your general manager actually posts here regularly under a host of different aliases, claiming to be someone else.

(I'm not sure I've ever seen any evidence of #2 above. I know the persona, but I don't know how it got tabbed to Mr. Peterson.)

I don't doubt that...but the "describe why you are the biggest fan in 10 words or less". That is CLEARLY a rip off to me. You didn't have to use that part of it. Could have just given away the CD, qualified them, and picked a random winner Monday morning.

Don't get yourself too excited. I had you on for about 2 minutes. And that was the first time in months. I get my CHR fix from 96.5 (as do most of my female friends that happen to be in the 18-34 demo)

Unless of course, the person providing the trip (in this case, likely Rust Records / Universal Records) had it set up as a pre-packaged giveaway, and that was the way the LABEL wanted it given away.

Going to interupt the discussion for just a moment here...

I'll say this. For those that may not know, I am only 19, so it was fairly recently that I got out of high school. It was in the Alliance area, and the younger end of the high school were Q92 fans. The upper end were more 965 KISS-FM listeners.
Just like the numbers show, Q92 gets the 12-17 year olds and then they move on to WAKS.
Which, is really kind of sad, especially in the area I was in, where 92.5 can be heard thru your toaster, and it is the very fringe of the WAKS coverage area. (to the point where if you go down a hill into a valley, you pretty much lose it, and all other Cleveland stations)

And just 3 or so years ago, 965 KISS-FM and at the time, Z92.5, were completely non-existent. Hot 101 was the station everybody listened to.
My, how times have changed.

Alright, continue on.

See,
Now this kind of thread is fun, unpredictable (as to responses), and way more entertaining than Top-40 v.2005 format switch speculation!
Keep it up!
