WAYE 1220

Just visited Zach's site, almediapage.info. He is reporting the WAYE 1220 in Birmingham is now airing the La10Q spanish programming, as of the first part of this month. Does anyone know if Richardson worked out some type of LMA with the folks who own WZGX?

Coincidental that you mentioned that... I was in Trussville this evening and noticed that they were carrying Hispanic programming... In addition, maybe it was just because I was on the east side of town, but I noticed AM 1450 appeared to be off the air.

I heard Gary Richardson last week announcing a format change to Mexican Regional for WAYE 1220 and that WJLD will be simulcasting on WIXI 1360 Jasper.

Maybe some type of swap deal took place. I will wait and see what gets filed with the FCC.

I do know that as soon as the Mexican format started on 1220. 1450 in Bessemer went off the air.

I believe Rivera Communications is buying WAYE and throwing in WIXI 1360 in Jasper.

I'm just wondering if there is another "piece to this puzzle" as to why Richardson would want AM 1360, WIXI, a Jasper station, to rebroadcast WJLD. I know WIXI has 12 kw days now, but why would Birmingham listeners tune into 1360 when they're already listening to WJLD on AM 1400? WIXI has night authorization, but it's probably some miniscule power that barely covers Jasper. WJLD already has 1000 watts at night, so there would be no benefit for WJLD listeners tuning into 1360 at night. Is it possible Richardson has plans to buy WIXI and move it to Birmingham, now that WBYE is no longer on AM 1370 and WIXI could move further south?

Could it be that Richardson wants to expand the coverage area for WJLD by simulcasting on WIXI?

Walker County can now hear WJLD's programming. The combined reach is awesome.
