Wayne Sheffield has passed

I received word that former Meridian radio jock and PD Wayne Sheffield passed away this morning. I haven't heard anything about arrangements yet but I'll pass it along as soon as I hear something. I had the pleasure of working with Wayne when I started my career at Q101 and I will always remember how friendly and knowledgeable he was. We truly lost one of the good ones today. I'm not sure if anyone knew but Wayne had been battling cancer for several years.

God speed, my brother.

I too had the pleasure of working with Wayne at Q101 while it was owned by Apex and then Clear Channel. He became one of my best friends in the radio business. He knew country radio better than almost anyone I know. He was a hard worker and he will be missed. He leaves quite a legacy in the Meridian radio market. Wayne had the knowledge and the know how,not the ego. We kept in touch during his illness, but to be honest, his passing is still a shock to me. Another good radio man gone, but not forgoten. Rest in Peace my Friend.

I just found out the arrangements:

Visitation will be tonight at Robert Barham Funeral Home on Hwy 39 from 5:30 - 7:30. Funeral will take place at the funeral Saturday at 2:00.

Back in 1985 when i got started in radio (Forest, Ms. WQST), my 1st gig was nights, i followed Wayne Sheffield on air, Wayne would always freak me out, now realize this was the still the age of vinyl records, as a song was just seconds from running out he'd calmly reach over and grab another record, throw it on a turntable set the needle on it and it'd be the tightest sounding segue u ever heard, like it was well planned !!!! Just learned that Luther Wayne is being buried today (Saturday), knew he had cancer, had talked to him about a month ago, he seemed in good spirits considering. R.I.P. Luther Wayne Sheffield
