WAYV and 99.3 Kiss FM are on helium!

I was DXing WAYV and 99.3 Kiss FM from Long Island today and I noticed that they're both pitching up the music about 4%. Definitely more pitched up than 92.3 Now. I like how they sounded. Lady Gaga sounded like a chipmunk singing Edge of Glory.

WAYV was like a local in Long Island tonight, and 99.3 Kiss FM had a little static but was listenable. B98.5 was making La Fiesta 98.5 unlistenable just 10 miles from the transmitter. And the worst commercial signal in New Jersey, Fun 106.7, was putting up a fight with Lite FM.

Some of WAYV'sd stuff is 6.5% pitched up!
That's more then a half step!
Some have reverted from pitching things up. WAYV has been pitchin for ages now.

And sister station 100.7 WZXL is just as bad when it comes to pitched up music.....I can understand when a Top-40/CHR pitches up the music but NOT a rock station.....WZXL pitched up "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd so bad yesterday that I turned right over to 103.7 WMGM (which doesn't sound bad I might add).....I know WZXL has been pitching up their music for years but to me it really sounds terrible

I know ZXL has been doing it since ages now.
Kiss 99.3 did it even when they were the Buzz in both its Rhythmic CHR and Dance CHR days.
I dont like it when any station, top40 or otherwise pitches things up.
Besides there are options to speed up the music (since I thought that was the entire point anyway) without pitching it up.
WPST does it.
They used to pitch up too, but now they just speed up without pitching.
That can sound bad too, but they've somehow manage to make it not sound to horible unless notes are held, then you can hear the artifacts.

Like anything else, its OK in moderation. 1.3% pitched is the max I would do - makes the songs sound brighter IMHO.

Would I do it on a rock station? Hell no!

Isn't it possible for stations that wanna speed up their music just increase the tempo,
and not the pitch. It's kinda hard to notice for the average listener, even at 2-3%.

I have a good music player on my computer (MixVibes) and I play most of my mp3's
at an average of -2% (speed & pitch), I like it better that way.

It's easiest if you compress the audio on the individual files instead of "real time." But why bother? Unless you have network hard breaks to worry about (which neither WAYV or Kiss does) there's no point.

Even with network hard breaks there are ways around them; when I was last at WOND in 2001 we already had the capability to "instant delay" network programming like Paul Harvey or news updates so the hosts didn't have to worry about going a little past the post, so to speak.

There's really no point in speeding up music.
