WAYX PROPERTY BEING DEVELOPED AS APARTMENT COMPLEX

The old WAYX studios and tower site at 1600 Carswell Avenue in Waycross is being redeveloped as an apartment complex,Westside Apartments.The old studio is presently standing,with the front glass doors taken off.The building previously known as the marble mansion was constructed in 1948.Construction is well underway at the old tower site,so the studio will be next to go.The building has not been used since 1993.WAYX was the first station in Waycross,going on the air in 1936,owned by The Waycross Journal Herald,and managed for years by the late John Tobola.
