Or did you mean that it's in a bigger picture frame than the others? Your claim can't be based on wattage.
 
Simple math. Twice the antenna height equals 4 times the power.
WAZY's antenna is twice as high as WKOA's.
WKOA would need 200,000 watts to equal WAZY.

Okay, now this may SOUND a bit inappropriate for some... but... just because you have a "big stick" doesn't mean you know how to use it ;D

HUH? They're both licensed at 50Kw ERP with a class distance of 39-52km. Heighth is great, but factor in things like transmitter output power, feedline loss, antenna gain.....looking at the contour maps at the FCC website shows coverage areas to be similar with WAZY having a somewhat larger area, probably because their antenna is higher, but NOT twice as high as WKOA. They both do what they're supposed to do coverage-wise and appear to do it well judging from the maps.

There are actually 2 stations operating with short sticks in this area. WKOA and WIBN. Both of
these FMs have towers that are about 200 feet short.

WIBN would need 50 KW at their current height to have the coverage they could have
with their current power and a 500 foot stick. WKOA would need 100 KW to equal WAZY
with 50 KW.

The new morning team is up and running on WAZY. Any one start a pool yet? If WAZY targets females 18-34, does it seem weird to anyone else that Kim would spend her morning talking about "boycotting" men? The target is young soccer moms who we hope, are happily married and "like" men. The new guy today talked about his sister crying her way out of trouble. What kind of trouble? "time outs". It will be interesting. Any other thoughts out there.

i hate to intergect, but offending anyone should be done on a rock formated station. While its fun and topical, women dont enjoy offensive material especailly with the wazy format leaning to soccer moms. business dont like to hear offensive material on the air because they will pull commercials.

its really a simple strategy, for women sticks smile when you talk. you have a better opportunity of making a woman write you in the diary than making her feel offended. its not rocket science here
 
Since when has WAZY aimed at the soccer mom demo? This isnt 1999.

An 18-34 demo would mean the median age of the WAZY listener is around 26....and in a college town such as Lafayette, many females are either just starting a family or have yet to consider it. Id hardly classify WAZY as being the soccer mom station. Save that title for WGLM.
 
Ok, Dan (quackattack) and Rick(lurkerjock)...you two obviously have it out for WAZY. Luckily for WAZY your not around anymore considering thier target demo is certainly NOT a soccer mom. Try an AC station. Top 40 is meant to be mainstream and with what is NOW. The demo is targetted at a 26 year old female. Certainly don't know many 26 year old soccer mom's these days. Have you talked to a 26 year old female recently? Generation X/Y women are independant, strong, and know what they want. Kim "boycotting" men is pretty target demo, and to women, not offensive...even if they are in a relationship. From what I hear, Kim IS the target demo and probably knows more about what women her age want to talk about then the two of you.
 
And I forgot to mention: Have you guys even listened to the songs on a CHR? If you are worried about "offensive" try listening to Nelly Furtado's Promiscous, Akon's Smack That, or try some Avril Lavigne. Obviously the demo is quite resilant to "offensive" material. No one on WAZY for years has even come close to being as "offensive" as the songs.

You want to know what a demo will tolerate, listen to the music.

WAZY is Top 40 CHR, not AC.

By the way, does anyone know what is going on with thier PD? Maybe I should apply. ;)

I heard WAZY today and can tell that they've definitely added some Hot AC to the playlist. It honestly sounds pretty good.
 
I only heard the new team for a bit, but from what I caught they seemed to be talking about the listeners to one another and not to them. I heard alot of "they" and "them." Personally, I don't liked to be talked about. Does anyone know if this occurred the whole show or just the segment I heard?

Give them a break. They have only been on the air together for 3 days with NO PD! Keep in mind this is market 245, not 25. They are not going to be perfect, they're just spring chickens...with a lot of talent I might add!

I'll tell you what, when I become the PD I will let them know.
 
Talent???? Are you kidding me? :p Kim or whatever her name is sucks!! I don't even know what she's doing in radio and I really mean that. I haven't heard enough of the new guy to make a call on him yet, but I really thought that once she got a co-host things would be going smoother, but nope! She still sucks and bad. If the show was anymore boring though and sounded anymore like they didn't prep at all they'd lose all they're advertising. They're just not fun. Not entertaining in the least. The only reason anybody listens to the WAZY morning show still is because of expectations that it will get back to how it was when Steph was on. At least THAT morning crew was fun. This morning crew just sounds stupid. Must have been all AMP could've afforded though. LOL!
