Chris Carter To Become PD At WAZY

CHRIS CARTER has resigned his post as OM at CROSSROADS COMMUNICATIONS[EDIT]

No replacement has been named.

Just wondering why you would come from a station where they buy the book to a station where you future is held in the hands with the fine people at Schurz because they are the only ones buying the book? ???

From Indiana Airwaves:

"From what I can remember a PD at WAZY lasts about 6 months on average. The last PD opening was posted about Christmas time, just a few months ago."

This true? If so, help the poor soul.

Yeah, pretty close to true. The last PD started around the new year and quickly got a new job somewhere in Ohio. Probably wasn't so much that AMP was that bad, but that it was a better job.

With a new PD for WAZY in Lafayette and for WBWB in Bloomington, Artistic is starting to make some moves with their new found money from the Fort Wayne sale. Let's see if they leave the PD's alone to help them make more money.

And speaking of Fort Wayne, Russ Oasis has signed on "The Vibe" on the old Sunny frequency as a classic dance station. Not sure if there is a hole for it or not in Fort Wayne, but Three Amigos is breathing a HUGE sigh of relief that Russ didn't keep 106.3 spanish.

Has anyone heard who will replace Chris at Crossroads? What a blow for them, their last book (WBOW-FM) wasn't that great and now this?? Didn't he also do mornings?? Attention Matt Luking!!! And good luck to you Chris.

I wish Chris Carter the best. I am sure he will be successful in Lafayette. Always nice to be mentioned in these radio threads. For now, I keep doing what I do at WZPL in Indy on the weekends. I wish WBOW well. I have been helping out there from time to time in the past few months co-hosting with Chris and filling in for Sketch and Julie, and continue to offer my assistance if the new PD or GM wants to give me a call. Contributions to radio stations are measured in many different ways. I still love radio and the people of the Wabash Valley. This area has been good to me for many years, so I always try to give my best when opportunities arise to give back to the community.

Good luck Chris, and thanks for knocking me out on the river in Texas Hold Em this past weekend!

Money from Ft. Wayne?!?!

"Artistic is starting to make some moves with their new found money from the Fort Wayne sale. ".....

....they paid $8 million for the Ft. Wayne stations and sold them for less than $4 million. They only thing they "found" is their business IQ sucks.

They paid 6.2 million for 93.3 and 5 million for 106.3 if I can remember correctly, but I gotta give it to Russ the Vibe station sounds great. Its nice to hear something like that when im in town for business. The average PD fro WAZY is 5.7 months. WAZY is a good station if they support it with money and leave the poor PD's alone. We all know that PD's like to move in and change things, but not everyone is like that. This is why stations hire consultants, and even WAZY had its first consultant in years under the last PD. But when you dont even buy the book, it doesnt matter. Really hope it works for Chris and the girl at WBWB. Karen is a great PD too, we really have a lot of respect for her, but I think shes been with the company for so long becuase they dont screw with her playlist all the time. Oh, and they also throw the SB cluster whatever money they have laying around and forget about the cluster in Lafayette. Lafayyette AMP is a sinking ship, and thats why 90% of the staff left at the end of December, they didnt want to go down with the Titanic in the Wabash. Listening to it, the station hasnt updated the imaging since the last PD and the music has leaned back into the younger demo again. Wolf is all radio in a box now too. Hope Chris can fix the patch on the side of the boat before its too late.

My records indicate AMP paid $5 million for 93.3 and AMP paid $2.61 million for 106.3. I have Oasis paying $3.8 million for both. Oasis paid roughly half of the above prices (49.934%) to AMP.

quackattack34,

Who is the " . . . the girl at WBWB?" What is her background? Is this someone other than Pam, because I have heard that Pam left a while back.

Thanks.

That last PD that lasted less than six months was Dan B. and he wasn’t much of a manager of people or music. The guy was a mouth for the music consultant who failed miserably and wanted to change a 50 year heritage CHR station to an AC station. The on-air staff that I spoke to said he was personality “0”. According to the trades, he quit and moved to Ohio with the consultant, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that he got canned due to his total lack of radio knowledge and poor performance.

Wow! Thank you people in corporate down in Indianapolis. Im sure he couldn't appreciate the blasphemy anymore.

I want to set the record straight. I dont like to come on here and bash stations, we are all in this business for the same reason, or atleast we should be. It's to give back to our communities and develop strong brands to make stations competitive and win.

When Dan decided to cut his ties with Artistic Media Partners, it was simply to move on to a better opportunity. Wouldn't you do the same. He was not let go, there is even proof if you need to see it. You can even ask the GM currently in the building at WAZY, he said there were no hard feelings toward Sandy, instead, he wished Sandy and the staff the best of luck in the future endeavours of the radio stations.

The last poster said that he had no personality, no people skills and no music skills. I have worked with Dan for 3 years in the business and under that time, we built 3 new radio stations, took those 3 stations to the top of the ratings and then he moved on to Kentucky where he took the #1 station in the market and increased both Cume and TSL to an all time high. When you go from a 23.5 share to a 31.4 share in 1 book, you call that a failure? He also took the daytimer AM to an unheard of 3.2 share in the market coming from only a poor 0.4 share in the book prior.

In Lafayette, the Wolf tore up the ratings with the second highest share in station history in Fall 06. WAZY beat the crosstown rival WXXB in the vital 18-34 key demo for Top 40 radio stations. The music shifted from targeting a 20 year old female to a 28 year old female. Now if 28 years old serves the AC population, please let the big wigs at CC, Citadel, CBS and the others know, im sure they want you to inform them.

Dan is a great guy, and a true friend. Im not here just defending because I know him, I see the numbers and I hear the stories of people that worked with him and for him, nothing negative at all. Dan was in a situation at WAZY that most of us are lucky we never have to be in. When they let go of half the staff (on air and support) and tell you that you have to work 20 hour days and you will never see a pay raise in your life, what would you do? Consultants are a great asset to any radio station. WAZY was lucky to have one for its short lived time.

How do you explain the turn over the other PD's at WAZY who leave within 6 months? Hasn't WAZY had it's share of folks?

How do you explain Dan's success at this new stations in Ohio?

If I am not mistaken, WAZY has hired 3 Program Directors since Dan left for a VP position in Ohio. 2 of them jumped ship after only being at the station for a day. That has only been 5 months. So it seems as to me the problem isnt with the PD, its with the stations general outlook and prosperity. Oh, why is it called Lafayette's #1 Hit Music Station if it were being programmed to Adult Contemporary listeners? That change was made during Dan's short tenure.

We can all sit and gripe for days about what needs to be done with WAZY... bottom line is that it's not going to happen until someone else owns the station(s).

Boiler Up!

How do you figure the Wolf tore up the ratings?

Try taking away Purdue Football saturdays. They were horrible in the ratings without Purdue on Saturday.

Sure with the Waitt network they sound better but I doubt that will translate into anything.

A 50 year heritage CHR? Facts Please.

I was there in 1980 and they were TOP 40. Changed shortly thereafter to AC. TOP 40 is not CHR and CHR didn't exist 50 years ago.

CHR is an 80's term to describe watered down Top 40. More card readers and less personality. They have been AC for many periods since 1980.

Difference between CHR and TOP 40:

If you can say "K-T-N-Q" or "W-N-D-E" this is Top 40.

Say "WZPL" and this is CHR.

The AM was the big draw originally. Although I did have jingles that sang "WAZY AM and FM Lafayette."

Same point I was going to make. Now, if the spring 07 book shows them still ahead, then it may not have been a fluke.

BTW, did they drop Lia? I haven't heard her on recently.

The only station to really benefit from Purdue sports all around since WAZY dropped them was The Rocket. I still don't understand why AMP dropped Purdue sports and switched the frequencies back, considering The Rocket seen it's highest classic rock ratings being at 95.3 (in and out of the sports season).
