Ok, get this- You hire one of America's finest and leading consultants who has built some of America's most prestegious Top 40 and AC institutions billing millions of dollars and getting ratings and taking names. You make all the appropriate moves with the station. One morning you wake up and go to work to get a memo that says "lets take the 50 year heritage WAZY back to Hot AC and this is from the owner.
About a week later the owner and the consultant after much needed research discuss what is best fit for the station they call you and say lets keep it Top 40, but play more Rhythmic at night. The consultant looks at the logs and says why are you playing more Rhythmic at night?
After you lose an award winning consultant, you get another memo and it says, your playing too much Rhythmic, tone it down and lean Hot AC again. What? So you lean Hot AC and sales start to go up (Lafayette doesnt have a true CHR until this point so thats why its doing well).
The owner then says, your still playing too much Rhythmic, were going to have everyone in the company including me look at your logs to see what were doing wrong. Comes back and says add more Rhythmic. What?
Then you get a phone call and the owner likes a Soft Rock song and says add this, you have to add this. The owner is now telling the PD what to add? By this time, what format are you? Jack FM
Listeners are liking how the station has grown up and playing a bigger variety of hit music and the owner starts freaking out and says were playing too soft of music, so they ask to add more Rhythmic (exact quote "Watch the playlist of B96 in Chicago").
A WEEK LATER: you get a memo that says its too Rhythmic, take it Hot AC NOW!!!
And this is all within 10 weeks, you want to talk about drinking your misery away.
WAZY has had a total of 9 Program Directors in two years, now thats scary.
Its going to have to get a major enema before things get better in Lafayette Radio
