WAZY news

What's the latest scoop since Steph left? I heard a new girl in the morning, but didn't catch her name. She didn't sound too bad. I'm also noticing that the music variety is much more broad, possibly making Z more appealing to a broader audience. It's sounding sort of like ZPL which in my opinion is something Lafayette needed. It makes them different than the repetitive crosstown competition.

Can you believe it... there are actually some positives coming from an AMP station. It's a miracle!!!! Questions is, how long will it last.

Steph was a real worker. Hope she lands well.

WAZY needs to find some listeners over 30 and maybe this is their way of doing it.

At this point, they are losing listeners to B on the younger end and GLM on the older end (this is all based on breakdowns from the last couple books).

On the other hand, the "broader and trying to sound adult" scenario is what they've tried in the past and it didn't work then either.

Steph was fired? Got out of radio? I never heard the factual story...

???

wazy sound a ton better than it has in the past three years. no matter how you paint the picture all women want is variety. wglm seems to be targeting the upper demo of 25-44 while wxbb is servicing the teenagers. i was in town when wazy was older. however when you talk older i assume your talk the soft ac walk. now its called mainsteam contemporary hits my friend and thats what top 40 is all about

Stephanie left WAZY on her own to pursue interests outside of radio. All the best to her.

Stephanie was there for quite some time and outlasted 99% of the airstaff there while she was employed at AMP. I'd say that's quite an accomplishment. I wish her the best.

WGLM actually continues to move younger (and succeeding!) with females 18-34. They gave up on older women about 2 years ago. I don't hear much music over a couple years old during the day at 106.7FM.

I have to admit, I can't tell any difference with WAZY. I'll have to (patiently) try and listen for more than 15 minutes.

:p

i think wazy is stradelin the line with wxbb on one side and wglm on the other. wglm sound good! wazy is what top 40 was meant to be now.

WAZY needs a local night show..........sounds great otherwise.

WGLM has a little ways to go BUT its sounding better.

WXXB is concentrating on playing today's hits all the time. Differentiating themselves from WAZY is good.

I hear WLFF is on the bird again and reinvented themselves for the 200th time. Still last place with Purdue sports. They need to change the stations name to Black Kettle 95.3 cause that kettle cant get any blacker. Country is done my friends. NEXT!

wlff needs to be new rock and alternative. 95.3 the x! that would be a fun station and squeeze khy

I agree, WLFF needs to ditch the country. They've basically tried everything possible and it's just not working. I think Steve Clark would do a great job with a Rock Alternative format. He did before with the old Rocket station in the late 90's. I heard that station had excellent ratings. Never really understood why they closed-up shop. Maybe it was because WAZY returned to CHR around that time??

Steve would because he did an excellent job with the modern rock format up until 2001 when The Rocket flipped to classic rock. And yes, the reason why The Rocket flipped in the first place was because of WAZY's switch back to CHR/pop in 2001. Alternative and CHR overlapped for about 3 weeks. For nearly one of those weeks, 95.7 was completely off the air. I guess Art needed an insurance policy just in case the WAZY CHR experiment turned out to be a big flop...either that or he felt that CHR and alternative rock crossed paths too much. In reality, WAZY's hot AC format seemed to duplicate more "Rocket music" than WAZY as a CHR. I welcomed top 40 back in Lafayette at the time....too bad it was at modern rock's expense. The Rocket was a well-programmed alternative rocker.

I never understood why they didn't place classic rock on 95.3 and keep 95.7 modern rock. There would have been so many various sales options AMP could have had with that set-up. Plus, if 1410 was sports, AMP would have been a one stop shop for males and young adults in town, thus crushing KHY, especially when it was a stand-alone in the market. Seems logical, but...

I would move Opie and Anthony to mornings live (6-9) with modern rock for the duration of the day. You'd be surprised how many calls they get on their satellite radio show from people around Lafayette....I know 2 of them who wait forever just to be put on the air. They know a lot more.

Mancow doesn't quite fit the category as "shock jock" anymore. He's trying to build affilates across the country based on his appearances on Fox News Channel and is being picked up by several conservative talk stations around the country as a result. Mancow is going to play it safe so he won't offend his older listeners on those stations.

Jim Rome would be great to have on 1450. I always liked the concept of an all sports station that didn't exactly follow straight network programming all the time. Besides, Jim Rome (live) followed by tape delayed Dan Patrick or vice versa would be killer. Two big names in sports talk back-to-back.
