WAZY

Did anyone see the rumor mill board. Some interesting developements over there

I hate to say this, however upon the departure of Rick, Carley, Stephanie, Dan and Scotty the stations have been weakened at the knees and now crumbling from the top down. Its a matter of months if not weeks we'll see Lafayette in the trades as being purchased by a larger corporation. With corporate programming from South Bend, no one really has a hold on what Lafayette wants or deserves for its hometown radio station. This goes for Schurz as well. No doubtedly they run an overall better operation on the east side. If the actions continue in town, it will lose the Arbitron stati as well.

If they were to leave well enough alone in October the stations could have rebounded within a year and climb back to the top of the ratings/revenue chain. A wise broker once said "Its a matter of time before we all come knocking at my door asking for a few hundred dollars to keep us happy." Ironically that same broker is now the vice president of aquisition for an infamous radio company in Texas.

Cheers to the new and improved U96 Lafayette and U97 in Bloomington. Here is a tremendous idea, lets change them all to KISS FM and move the Contemporary Hit Radio format in South Bend to 97.7 and call them KISS FM 97. Then you can save on overall expenses and brand them as such for greater exposure.

If the art's wake up one morning and think that is a good idea, KISS 'em all is what they will be. Kissfm, you are right, the stations were on the right track while the group was there. Rick is a top notch turnaround guy with a lot of connections and people enjoy working for him. He was probably their best and last chance until someone buys them. He would probably be the buyers first call.

When I listened to the stations in Lafayette 3 months ago, I was very impressed on how good they have become. Today, not so great. From what Ive heard talking to numerous people in town, Rick was the best GM to walk in those doors.

I think they had the potential to turn things around. Baisden had the vision and they had the talent that could carry them for a decent amount of time. Then Steph was the first "rat" to jump ship, the rest followed, and now we are stuck with the Titanic teetering before the eventual plummet to the bottom of the ocean.

I couldn't agree with you more "Lostinlafayette". You hit the nail right on the head. If they would have just left well enough alone, WAZY and the other two would have rebounded and made the climb back to the top.

Wolf was already on the way up finishing 12+ right behind WKHY and eroding WKOA. And WAZY won the prized demo (W 18-34) as well. No one can say the only reason the Wolf did so well was Purdue Sports. While thats all a dream we would like to have, it was due to better programming and tremendous leadership.

It's rather funny to read through this thread, as well as the "Rumor Mill" thread, and see all the wild theories and speculation. It's interesting to see that some of you who THINK you know everything, really know nothing about what's going on, what's going to happen next, or who the next PD is going to be.

Why don't we just sit back, relax for a few days, and see how things play out? With the start of the Spring book not too far away, I'd imagine that WAZY will have a new PD within a couple weeks so that person has time to implement any modifications to the radio station that they see fit, prior to the start of the book.

For the time being, though, some of the speculation in these two threads has been rather embarassing, to put it kindly. That's just my opinion on the thing, though.

Cheers!

nicely said as an aritie supporter, but you see, since the angotti's cant afford to buy the spring book, that really doesn't matter now, does it? New pd, music, direction, doesn't matter because the people on 18th st can't talk about it because they don't buy (invest) in it. A market like Lafayette sometimes is a springboard for talent. But, no pd worth a dime is going to see what is going on here and never pay the price.

Getting the raw numbers isn't hard, especially in a market this size, and one doesn't have to steal to get them. Getting the all-important demo-specific breakdowns, however, not to mention the numbers gleaned from Tapscan and Maximizer will be significantly more challenging. If "The Book" weren't really necessary, I'm wondering why so many stations buy it, especially in multi-station markets. Maybe Lafayette is setting a new trend in "book sharing." The fall of mighty Arbitron begins right here, right now! mw

There is nothing in regards to local content on WLFF besides local commercials......what little they have...and Purdue sports....so I wouldnt praise AMP for their programming abilities. Thats done out of Omaha with the exception of Lia, Blair and other syndicated fare.

12+ numbers can be deciving at times because everything from undersampled and oversampled demos, all dayparts and every day of the week come into play. A last place station could be first place in their core demo and a first place 12+ station could be way down in others. Arbitron places WLFF in a four way tie for fifth place in the adults 25-54 demo......The Wolf's core audience. K105 had nearly three times the audience for the same demo. Hardly what Id call a rip roaring success. Their fall book always appears to be bigger than what it really is due to that incredibly huge share they recieve for the weekend 10-2 daypart due to Purdue sports. Every other daypart and demo, they do fair to poor at best. WLFF has been around for nearly 10 years as the bottom feeder of the Lafayette market. I think if they were going to erode away K105's audience they would have done so by now.

Also B bloodied up Z in many categories as well. This is what happens when you have four stations and a very thin workforce to keep them fresh. No hating here. Just the facts.

boiler county your right on but for small staff at wazy they were able to beat up wxbb in the core demo women 18-34 like it or not. last time i chex men 18-34 isnt the top 40 demo
