WBAD (and maybe some insights on KXI and other things)

If your last name is Stroup, yes, we did meet at 107.3 Pensacola.

Carl Haynes was a charter member of the WKXI Aug 1971 staff... came there from Denver with his girlfriend, Debbie Noel, who was our night time DJ. Carl stayed in Jackson for many years, at WJMI, and later on 1590 AM. Others: Joe (Eddie) Martin who later worked at WJQS, Tom Wilson, who bought WDLT in Mobile from me in 1992 (died last year), Bill Hunt (died about 4 years ago), Wayne Edwards (who also did news on MRN, and did a late-night shift for us-- one of the first white DJs to work on a black station). And of course, lest we forget, our top flight newsman, Swampwater Henry McClurg.
 
Was WSAO a daytimer while on 1550?
I had no idea they were not always on 1140.

They boomed all over the delta during the daytime but have barely been on the air since the early 90s.
At times you could barely understand anything being said on the air the audio was so bad. It's still pretty horrible.
 
Heavy Herb did become a minister, but I didn't know he had gone to Jacksonville.

What is Carl Haynes doing these days? IIRC, doesn't he have a hand in WRTM Vicksburg and didn't he run WZRX before they changed format?
 
I had no idea WRTM was being moved to the metro area. I'd thought, however, that they'd want to have better coverage over the area. Perhaps protection issues with WJXN 100.9? The move would also force the LPFM to move.
 
Radio-Locator.com shows a C2 in Port Gibson covering a lot of area, but populated by jackrabbits and pine trees. It further shows a CP for downgrading to Class A and moving to a site between Canton and Madison-Ridgeland which will cover less area but more population.

First WLEZ, now WWCV or whatever it's called. Seems LPFM in Jackson can't catch a break.
 
WLEZ has had to change frequency one time, but I can't see where they have suffered any from it. WWCV hasn't done anything since it signed on - I don't know if anyone will miss it if they sign it off once wRTM makes their move.[

What is on WWCV? The last time I was in Canton they were playing oldies. The signal barely made it out of Canton. Speaking of low power FM. What happened to Crossgates Baptist Church on 104.3 in Brandon. Its been dead air for the last couple of weeks or so.
 
I was under the impression WWCV would be used as some type of Convention and Visitors Bureau radio but I don't think it's ever done that. Now here's the strange thing. I coulda swore that they were relaying WMGO (AM 1370) on the FM at one point, and had moved the oldies jukebox to AM. It even showed the WMGO calls & request line on the RDS of 100.1 if I recall correctly.

Last time I was down there, back in March, I think the FM was back to oldies.

The transmitter is atop the building at the corner of Peace St and US-51 which, oddly enough, seems to house the WMGO studios. Google Street View has a nice look at the place.
 
Does Jerry Lousteau still run WWCV? Given that he's president of WMGO, it does make sense to house everything under one roof. Unless that's illegal.

I believe my radio scan stopped on 104.3 recently. They do tend to be off an on, though.

WWCV is located in the WMGO studio. The antenna is located on the short tower on top of the WMGO building. WWCV is owned by a separate entity - LPFM stations can't be owned or operated by commercial broadcasters.

I noticed the same thing with 104.3 - I've heard dead carrier for several weeks now.
