WBAP & ABC News

I caught it last night and again this morning that WBAP is not carrying the top of the hour ABC News any longer. At 5 AM this morning they went right to Amy with the news.

You noticed! You'll hear that the ABC News soundbites are now incorporated into the local newscast, and the newscasts are more in depth. Traffic comes up right at the top of the hour, too. And, before someone else suggests otherwise, WBAP is still very much an ABC affiliate.

As for the earlier post about Paul Harvey and Mike Huckabee, Paul's now on at 5:33AM instead, and his 10:45A and 6:45P reports remain the same.

I believe they are doing the same thing at WLS in Chicago. I did notice the ABC sound bites, they are just not carrying the broadcast. I think it sounds good. It makes them sound more local.

you are confused!! Gavin is messing up CBS not Citidel

We know that but we still blame Gavin!! Everything is his fault... ;D

...including the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, The Rangers, starving people in Japan, OJ Simpson, the recent power outages in Dallas, the weather that caused it, the neverending list of problems in the Dallas ISD and of course the weak economy... Sucks to be Spittle eh? (Wait, did I just say suck and spit in the same sentence? )

At first glance I would ask--how? The first (live) feed of the morning Harveycast
has always been at 8:30 ET/7:30 CT, with at least one repeat an hour later.

5:33am CT on WBAP would have to be yesterday's broadcast.

One then wonders--since it now seems to be Paul Jr.'s show--if it is now a recorded
'cast and indeed fed earlier in the morning by ABC. Perhaps 5:30am CT, to which
WBAP does a three-minute turnaround through a digital delay unit? (Guess we can't
say "live or Memorex" anymore. ;D)

I also just listened to a part of both Monday's and today's morning Juniorcast via the
website and it was the weird, wacko stuff that other posts have mentioned--nothing
topical, and frankly, not worth airing anywhere during AM drive.

You also forgot the black plague, spanish inquisition and the death of Jesus H Christ as well can be laid at the feet of one gavin charlene spittle.

I agree. I noticed Monday morning (including the slightly new station ID with the kind of sexy female voice announcing WBAP-HD Fort Worth-Dallas). I really like the straight into traffic thing, as I'm usually leaving my house right at 6 a.m. Plus, the more in-depth reporting really sounds good. I'll miss hearing Jim Ryan when ABC uses him in their top-of-the-hour reports (it's always kinda cool to this dork to hear a local city ID'd on the national news), but I think this is a smart move for 'BAP, and will be to the benefit of listeners. Good work, guys. :)

I did not know about this change. At noon today I turned on the radio in my car and heard WBAP news. My clock said 11:58am. I knew that was wrong, so I set it to 12:02pm since I thought that's when WBAP's part of the top of the hour news starts. Guess my clock will be a little off for a while. :)

Very good to hear them do this though. It's nice to hear national news, but I'd really rather hear more local news with the national mixed in where appropriate.

I myself would like to hear national news without the local spin, voice intro, etc. Traffic on top of the hour during drive time is good. Shomper the former OM is now at WLS so I wonder if he may have had some influence on the change up. Finally It would be nice to have a NEWS station without some pill popping talk show host telling you their version of the news devoid of facts.

No offense...but how and or WHY....would Shomper have anything to do with this? He's been at WLS for about 3 weeks....and I would think he has enough to do up there...without worrying about what WBAP does. Maybe the programming guru Tyler just waved his magic wand and made this happen? Like others on here....love the traffic first thing.....and I can do without the ABC net spin on politics....or more importantly....telling me who won a CMA award or a peoples choice award! That is NOT news!!!

Oh I dunno could be WLS is in Chicago, and in a larger market and perhaps Shomper made a "suggestion" and the citadel owners felt the idea was "marvy". Heck who knows for sure, but it does bare some thought ,and it is coincidental that both are doing the same.
