The WBAP-FM Classical incarnation was much earlier. Was still Classical in the early 60's (my Dad used to listen to it quite a bit) but later morphed into what might be called Easy Listening or what was then called "Good Music" or Standards oriented MOR. I recall ads in the early 70's with the liner "Where the Good Songs Are."

Before WBAP FM became "Silver Country" in 1973, it was not classical, but Beautiful Music. I was forced to listen at dinner each evening.

I recall they used to promo 30 minutes of uninterrupted music at the top of the hour following the weather forecast. At 15 past they'd run an ID saying you were in the middle of 30 minutes of continuous music. I remember thinking that was 'bold' for a Beautiful Music station.

And when it because KSCS it was the soft side of country with 3 in a row, back announced.

This is what I recall as well.

I've often wondered if the KSCS 3 in a row back announced presentation would work today on a country station wanting to be "different?"

But of course back then country was distinctly different from rock, today that's not necessarily the case!

Hey Guys:

Thanks for that info. Would anybody know when It changed to Beautiful Music? I didn't see it in Mike Shannon's web site.

Thanks

T.J.

I'm likely not much help, but when I moved to Mesquite (from Kansas City) in June 1969, WBAP FM was Beautiful Music at that point.
