WBAP-KSCS "Priorities"

It's interesting that WBAP-KSCS Inc (under Citadel's bankruptcy public documents) owes Arlington school district over $5000 in delinquent school property taxes, and over $13,000 to Mansfield ISD (for their studio and tower sites, respectively.) Also lots of unpaid bills to local companies from tower maintenance, "independent contractors", jingle and v/o people, carpet cleaners, billboard companies (including CBS!) fax machine toner and even the vending machine guy -- which has to be settled in bankruptcy court at probably 10 cents on the dollar, but Citadel petitioned the judge to make sure "talent" such as Mark Levin and Mike Huckabee and sports franchises get all their back and current pay at 100%.

Bet you'd never get past the call screeners with that information on Levin's show!

And what is even more interesting is why did they add Brian Estirich to the Morning New with Hal Jay? The alos hired Brad Barton. All of them are good talant but why woul they ahve so many people on the air in the morning. You would think theywould cut back and just have Hal and Amy or Hal until he retires. Seems like money wasted there. Don't get me wrong, the Morning show is great but I am talking from a money aspect.

I hope for their sakes they are direct employees rather than "contractors." Employees are can be paid as usual in most bankruptcies, but contractors have to wait in line with all the other "vendors."

I know it's an old-fashioned idea but maybe they were willing to spend money to improve their programming?

Brad & Brian are both employees, btw.

Remember, once a company goes into chapter 11, they no longer are in control of their destiny...the bankruptcy judge is and the judge takes input from the company and the creditors.

To avoid chapter 7 (liquidation), in chapter 11, generally they will try to figure out to get the company to emerge from bankruptcy. Liquidation is usually a no-win... Generally, that means keeping the product going and judges and creditor groups usually approve continuing to pay existing employees...in some cases, offering incentives to keep them from bolting. If employees aren't continuing to get paychecks and leave, the chances of the company of surviving dwindle. If suppliers don't get paid, no products get made and the chances of the company of surviving dwindle. Certainly, one would expect the court and creditors to OK continuing to pay employees and contracts to keep syndicated programming on the air at WBAP and KSCS. The alternative is to lay them all off and take the stations dark and sell them in a fire sale. That's not good for the employees or creditors.

So, everything else not related to keeping the business going (employees, suppliers, etc.) end up filing claims.
