WBAP REPORTER LANCE LIGUEZ LEAVES STATION

Yesterday (Tues 5/26) was his last day. Leaving to go to graduate school. He was at WBAP for 13 years, starting in May, 1996. His wife, Victoria, was a mainstay on WRR-FM for several years.

I don't know the guy, but why would ANYONE leave their job in THIS economy to go back to school?? Is he independently wealthy or something? Or is the school excuse the only way he could back out of a contract of some sort?

Quite possibly after 13 years he has had enough. Decided that he needed to get his degree so that he could move further in life instead of stuck in the same ole position.

i would love to know how some people can decide to leave their full-time gig to go on and pursue more education (which still eats up a good amount of money even IF you have grants) with the usual monthly income no longer available. Somebody tell me please so I can do it!!!!!

One comment and one question. Comment: Lance is a solid reporter who knows how to go after a story, and his departure is WBAP's loss. Question: In this economic climate, will Citadel allow WBAP to replace him? One would hope that his leaving doesn't, in effect, mean a further downsizing of their newsroom.

Yes indeed, Lance was one of the best breaking news and "on the spot" reporters in Dallas-Fort Worth, and the state, in my opinion. And he was always enterprising good stories too. His leaving will leave a big hole in radio news coverage, and there'll be some big shoes to fill. Best of luck in your future career!

To be accurate -

While I don't agree with everything Davis says lets please be accurate here.

Mark Davis is not now nor has he ever been anti-hispanic. I listened to his show regularly (before I lost my own radio gig back in March), and I never heard him utter a single anti-hispanic statement.

He is however, anti-illegal immigrant, and that would apply to anyone from any country entering the USA illegally. But no one calls him anti-Canadian, anti-Romanian, anti-Croatian, etc.

I suppose there are some who believe that anti-hispanic and anti-illegal are one in the same.

They're not - wise up!

Not every action (such as Lance leaving WBAP) is motivated by race. That idea is absurd on its face!

Well said. x2

And yes, it wouldnt surprise me if Lance's position went unfilled.

How do you go back to school to take on a new trade or profession.. you just do it. Work hard.. work 2 other jobs to support yourself. Use an adult learning center to start it off. You can do it. Maybe a little less time for reading about how the weather coverage wasn't done quite good enough for somebody here on da board.. GO FOR IT!
