WBBJ in jackson,tn needs to make MeTV a full time channel

i can only get WLMT out of memphis after dark and to me the good shows are on during the day. the only things i get to see are rockford files,hogan's heroes and mash. I asked WBBJ months ago about making MeTV a full time channel and they told me they want to make MeTV full time but it would not be in the near future. come on WBBJ put it on 7.2 which is useless as of this moment with little to no SAP on it.

I did some looking at the info for the stream for 7 and 7-2 is not using any bandwidth. Same feed as 7-1 but different audio PID. So its not like they just shut off 7-2 and use it for MeTV. They actually would have to reconfigure everything.

Rumour is they want to go 12 hours with MeTV on WBBJ-DT3 but no clue how they could because there is around 12 hours of CBS national programming right now (not including overnight up to the minute).
 
I definitely agree with you. If you're who I think you are, I've posted on your Facebook page occasionally. I mainly get to watch Me TV on late Saturday and Sunday nights since that's about the only time I can catch it on 7.3. WLMT carries Me TV almost full time. They carry My Network TV in prime time, which is when I'd like to be able to see ME TV the most, and makes no sense. ??? Unfortunately as it stands right now I don't have an outdoor antenna so I can't even get them. Charter in Jackson does have Antenna TV now, which is good at times, but I still like Me TV better.

I've also talked to WBBJ and was told that 7.2 was really the same as 7.1 with a different audio channel that doesn't really take up much more bandwidth. So it's really not a full channel.

My thought has been that WBBJ could and should drop the second ABC channel from 7.2 and adjust the bandwidth to allow Me TV to be on a separate subchannel. Technically they CAN do it. But if it's going to cost them money they're probably in no hurry to do it. I agree with Uncle Honkey that they're too cheap to do it unless they're forced to. We need to keep up the pressure on them though.

I'd think that CBS would howl if WBBJ tried to cut out any of their time except for possibly during overnight. One time that WBBJ could carry more of Me TV but they don't is on Sunday mornings. They fill it with infomercials except when Sunday Morning and Face the Nation are on, which makes no sense at all.

WBBJ could have avoided this mess if they had set CBS and Me TV up as separate subchannels from the start. :mad:
 
So in other words, nothing has changed at WBBJ in the 20 years since I moved away from west Tennessee. They were being run on a shoestring budget back in the '80s (and it showed!) and they apparently still are. Nothing is going to change there until some new owners (preferably some with some cash!) show up and shake things up a bit.

yes, that is my facebook page. i also saw on that link where you said you wished WJKT would add MeTV. WJKT dropped cooltv and added the live well network. i called WJKT and they said they wanted to do 12 hours of MeTV per day and 12 hours of LWN per day. LWN was up for it but MeTV wasn't and they are committed to WBBJ. I don't know if it is true or not but WJKT told me that MeTV told them if WBBJ won't take them on for at least 12 hrs per day by january that they will leave WBBJ all together.

other than overnight CBS national takes up 12 hours a day M-F on DT3. Looks like WBBJ likes to simulcast news on both which is kinda asinine. Why not fill it with MeTV from 5:30-7AM and other times when they have news on both stations?

I didn't know that WJKT had switched 16.2 to LWN. Although I'd rather have Me TV full time, 12 hours a day would be better than WBBJ's 4 hours.

In some ways I hope that it's true that Me TV is putting pressure on WBBJ to increase their time, but I'd guess if it came down to it WBBJ would go with CBS, but then hopefully that would open the door to WJKT getting Me TV.

Something else to consider is that Newport is selling WJKT, so hopefully the new owners might be more open to carrying Me TV full time. In any case I hope that this will put the pressure on WBBJ to either fix the problem or lose Me TV to WJKT.
 
contract with CoolTV and Newport ended July 31st so alot switched to LWN or ThisTV

Nexstar actually owns WJKT now (well they're running it....FCC hasnt signed off on it yet). They also bought the ABC & CW in Memphis (24 & 30). Hope Nexstar adds a 3rd channel/2nd subchannel (they have the room) for y'all or Metv tells WBBJ to shove it and move there (after all the CW in Mephis has My and METV sharing the DT2
 
I wish MeTV in San Antonio was on a main channel and not a sub channel.

You would think Austin would have MeTV but they don't we used to have Retro Television Network.

Here again, that's still better than what WBBJ is doing, although Me TV's prime time schedule is what I'd like to be able to see the most. I hope that Nexstar will change that on 30 as well. Meanwhile WBBJ's owners will probably continue to sit on their backsides and do nothing to fix the problem. I believe more than ever if WJKT can get Me TV WBBJ deserves to lose it, but they may not even care. :-\

i hope that if WBBJ does drop MeTV that WJKT will pick it up. WJKT told me they can add a 3rd subchannel.
