WOW....Note to Infinity...WBBM is hard to listen to!

I am using a Factory Ford radio, and this HISSSSSSS on WBBM makes it hard to listen to....quite tiring, kind of like one of those sleep machines. I am talking about listening right on the 780 frequency.

We've had to deal with it here in the Boston area on Infinity's WBZ (1030) for the past 2 years. WBZ WAS the best sounding AM'er in the market, bar none. TODAY however, it sounds like listening to news on a 4 kHz phone line with hiss added in for "good measure". I have the same kind of receiver in MY Ford. Even when they dump the slop-bucket sidebands at sunset, the audio really leaves a lot to be desired. Can't listen to it, it's flat and lifeless. (Hissssssssssssss!)
______________

Digital Stereo on a TALK station...I don't get it...

I love the fact that the technology they think will save radio is actually killing it softly. The suits are such chumps.

Just get your News and traffic on your cell phone. WRLL & WBBM both blown up in one week (kind of)! Oh, and how many 60 year olds are runing out to buy Kenwood HD radios to listen to old Herman's Hermits songs?

Keep it up boys!

In Hoffman Estates 780 and 1690 sound like a walkie talkie.

Here's a fun concept for the suits! How about taking the IBOC OFF the AMs and putting on the secondary IBOC of one of the many FMs they own in the market? Now there's a concept! No fading under bridges, better quality, no major interference problems, and it works in offices! Oh yeah, it can stay on all night too! All this and the poor AM station being "helped" can keep from running 99.999 percent of it's audience with noraml AM radios off. It's brain surgery folks! Are the suits chumps or what? They pay how much a year for that buzz?
______________

FM IBOC causes the same problems. There is hash on adjacent frequencies, making it almost impossible to receive distant stations on adjacent freqs (ex. if 104.3 WJMK runs IBOC, if you used to receive anything on 104.1 and 104.5, you will no longer be able to.)

First of all believe me I am no IBOC fan.

That being said, I have not had much trouble with stations running _FM_ IBOC and adjacents. For example... downtown Chicago, WNUA 95.5 runs IBOC, yet I can still get WIIL 95.1 way up in Kenosha. Also, if you listen to 95.3 you can still hear the analog bleed over.

AM on the other hand.....

I've never found FM IBOC to kill the second adjacents. If you don't have a very selective receiver, you will still hear the regular bleedover on the first adjacent, but if you have a receiver with narrow filters, all you will hear is hash, and certinly not another station, that you might have heard in the past.
Edited by jlehmann on 07/20/05 07:04 PM.
