WBBR 1130 Will Be Signing Off Temporarily

This is from Rene Tetro, CE for WFIL/WNTP Philadelphia, PA and the Broadcast Engineering Email List....

Transmitter Supervisor Bob Janney at WBBR, 1130, New York City, 50KW,
DA-N, has sent word along that WBBR will be off the air as of 12:01AM
Eastern Time, Sunday morning, August 27. When they bring the
transmitter back online they will be doing an audio proof of performance
so look for a lot of tones once they come back up.

When are they supposed to be back up?

WBBR also failed to show up in the ratings this book although they don't need numbers to make money.

If a tree falls in the forest...

If a radio station goes off the air, and nobody is listening anyway, does it really matter?

How is this any different than the many other stations, AM and FM, who sign off periodically for maintenance, that it deserves its own thread?

Just last week, Kiss FM, CD101.9 and WBAI were all off the air in the overnight for well over an hour.

I suppose maybe it should have gone in the DX board, but... I'm sure DXers in the NYC area would love to have known about the outages at WRKS/WQCD/WBAI too.

I suppose the differences are:
- we knew about the WBBR outage in advance (so it was possible to post while it would still do some good)
- as WBBR occupies a relatively open frequency, there was the possibility of some exotic DX when they went off. (and in fact, several listeners in the Northeast heard News 1130 from Vancouver while WBBR was off the air...)

That makes sense...I should have thought about the DXing possibilities, especially since I caught a rare catch myself while WBAI was off - 99.5 WJBR out of Wilmington, DE)
