"WBCN’s HD-2 channel is a joke"

"I stopped writing down songs once I heard one all my guaranteed 3 – only 37 songs in. That’s about 2 ¼ hours at 3 minutes 30 seconds per song. Only 24 unique artists (23 is you put The White Stripes and The Raconteurs together), and 3 songs repeated. I get why some stations repeat songs every 2 hours or so (audience tunes in for short amounts of time, and since the audience is constantly changing, it’s important to play the hottest songs as often as possible without being excessive). But with barely anybody listening, this is the time to be adventurous. Go deeper with core artists. Broaden the artists on the play list. And, for God’s sake, pay attention to the music flow – the artist separation is nonexistent because nobody at WBCN is paying attention to this. It’s embarrassing for them."

Great - now we get to read the ramblings of a self-described "yuppie." Yea!

Point is, that Ramsey is correct, in that resources will not be allocated to programming the HD channels, until they are profitable, which will never happen. Good for this blogger, for keeping track of the repetitive music that is programmed into the HD channels ! :D

Lite 102.9 in Charlotte (AC Oldies on HD-2), WTQR in Greensboro (Classic Country on HD2...not available ANYWHERE on commercial FM) have great sounding HD2 programming NOW. But screw commercial radio. It pays the bills around here, but it ain't what I listen to for my own entertainment. Public stations are filling HD2, and even HD3 channels with types of programming that aren't available otherwise. Like classical, jazz, bluegrass, and alternative music, 24 hour news and talk, international programming, and lots more. These aren't "pie in the sky" things that may be available at some point in the future. They're available NOW, HERE, and I live in a small market. The sky ain't falling, no matter how loudly you scream that it is.

Who needs extra HD channels - the radio dial is already over-allocated, and in Wash., D.C., we have more than enough stations to listen to. Yea, the sky isn't falling - it fell two years ago, on HD Radio:

"About HD Radio Press Releases and Programming"

"When the above play through, they repeat. That's enough said about the programming of this new, exciting, HD2 radio station."

Sadly enough I agree
