WBCN Fires Robby Roadsteam and hires Ian Robinson

Robby does have personality, that is for sure. I liked his earlier comedy schtick with his bands.
He did do stuff on WFNX, as a guest on the morning show a few years ago to promote one of his upcoming events, stuff like that. He morphed into what he became on the night show. The night thing at BCN didn't seem like a good pairing. Robby was the funny one.
Has anyone actually heard Iann? He's been there a while.

I agree that Robby is/was the funnier of the two, but it also seemed like Hardy was playing the straight man intentionally. He sounds different solo than when Robby's there.

Speaking of 'FNX, any chance they or 'AAF would give Robby a shot if he is in fact totally gone from 'BCN?

I worked at AAF for a few years. Around 2002-2003 I know Robby did stuff with Mike HSU and Carmelita. His song "I Put A Baby In You" actually appears on a mantown DVD.

Not likely. Who knows though, maybe he's not a total novelty act. I'm just thinking in terms of a PD. I like Robby.

I heard last night he got hired by FNX for some day shift. Good for him.

It seems CBS's higher-ups are trying to find things to boost ratings. These are the same suits who thought David Lee Roth would be a good fit in the morning. Hey, good luck to them .

David Lee Roth could have worked had they had a strong personality in there with him to shut him up and direct him. Dave's schtick is like a lot of comedians. Which is why comics rarely if ever work on radio in a regular slot. Perhaps Steve Harvey & Jay Thomas might be the exception.

Reason being...Comics do the same show every night in front of a different audience. They feed off of instant reaction of the crowd. Dave did the same thing. And we all know what we do is not the same as that at all.

This is where a chasm between those that appoint talent, and those that execute radio completely widens.

A lot of management people see "name" (Whoopi, DLR, etc) and figure..."Hey...these people are big stars...this will work!" meanwhile...the "stars" have no real idea what it takes to do radio every day. Because we don't have writers, and scripts, and have to be different every day. And the audience numbers in the hundreds of thousands, but you never know if they're reacting.

So...I guess this is harder than it seems. And those who do it effortlessly are better than the high-ups really think.

Robbie has that ability to entertain. With the right coaching/partner, he could do very well. Like Anthony Cumia...who prior to meeting Opie, was VERY funny, but didn't know how to do radio. Give Opie credit. He saw the raw talent and directed it well, and they both made a lot of money.

Someone seeing this in Robbie would be wise to strike up that same partnership. And someone in management would be wise to get him in-house and put together a show with another talent who knows how this is done. I always thought Mike Hsu could direct a show. He's the perfect dry funny to Robbie's "out of control guy."

Just a thought on a Sunday.
