WBCN's Logo

I caught some advertisting on the T this morning for DLR's show on BCN. The new station logo is promently on it, which looks a bit like the older (original?) one.

How many logos have they had, and who's had the longest running logo in Boston?

It incorporates the "rock" part of the old one, and definately looks pretty similar. I think it's been around for 6 months or so. Unfortunately, the new logo did not come with an overhaul of the existing website, which looks awful.

It's at least WBCN's third, and the last one was not the original: this was (look at the bottom).

On the second part: the Kiss logo has been around for a while, but it's not original. Is the WMJX logo original? If it is, that would be 23 or 24 years.

There's been many more than that. I have bumper stickers of at least 4 of them, and those are just from the last 20 years or so. I doubt I have all of them from that period.

'BCN has had various logos through the years. Below is a drawing I did
approximating what they had in the 80s for awhile (maybe late 70s too):

No thought put in BCN's logo at all

This is the one that you are thinking of....

A simple Google search dug up this one. I believe this is what you are thinking of. Not sure if they always had yellow in them:

It's from this webstie: http://www.radiotimeline.com/

OK. Wow.

WBCN's new logo is awful and unoriginal. The "splatter" logo that they last had was at least something original.

Their website?! DONT GET ME STARTED!!! Stations in MONTANA have better sites than that. Whoever the webmaster is there should really reevaluate their standing in this world.

Thats my .02. LOL

That looks like it, although with all the posts in this thread there seems to be a lot more that I had thought.

Splatter Logo / WBCN.com

I liked the splatter one, but they seem to be calling back to the older logos, perhaps (specuation!) to move to a more classic rock styling, then flip ZLX to more of a rock / hip hop mix. Then again, this isn't the market to try that in.

Too bad they're using (buffering) Real Audio and (buffering) not standard MP3s exclusively. Hell, all one needs to do is play the Real Audio (buffering) stream while ProTools or even the free Audacity program is running to encode it. Did I mention I HATE Real Audio?

You're right, the design is nothing more than a site that's several years old that's been updated here or there but not totally redone in a long time. Ah, yeah.

Real audio is not a program, IT'S A FREAKIN' VIRUS!
