WBD-Paramount Merger?

Remind me how the Standard General buyout of Tegna went... or Meredith Media General...

Just because Wall Street Brain Rot yearns for something in this present day doesn't mean it will come to pass. They don't hold a magic wand to make this disgusting wishcasting come true.

It's possible there will be a different party in charge of the government when this comes for approval.

I think people are not thinking about the amount of linear cable channels they will end up owning. No other company would own anywhere close to that amount, which is why I see it falling through

We don't know what would be included.
Their finances are too poor on the WB side. Also they would have to consolidate the cable channels owning both Nick and CN, the Discovery Channels and Smithsomnian, HBO and Showtime, Paramount Network, the Tnets (TBS, TNT, trutv), MTV, VH1, Tvland, BET, CMT, CNN and of course CBS. It would give them an unfair advantage if they did not.

Saw an article today that this might be a bait and switch to get Comcast to buy into WBD.
The theory is that Zaslav wanted to bait NBCUniversal into making its own offer to merge with WBD, which would apparently be a better deal for Zaslav since NBCUniversal and parent company Comcast are sitting on more cash than Paramount.

Like how Tyler Perry almost bought BET and VH1? Or how Byron Allen almost bought ABC? Or how Nexstar almost bought ABC?
No. Iger basically admitted he was pulling our leg with any talk of ABC being sold.

This isn’t a bad idea. WBD stands to make a ton of money, from the sports assets alone. cbs dumping sec football was a huge mistake. But they’ll have other rights year round
