WBDG-FM 42/42 Marathon (Ben Davis H.S.)

WBDG is planning its 42/42 Marathon (42 years in 42 hours) which serves a three-headed purpose....

1.) raising money for the radio program with the students doing the work
2.) planning a radio promotion and event with the students doing the work
3.) celebrating 42 years of high school radio at Ben Davis

We are currently looking for alumni, donors, ideas, etc. Perhaps even a partnership to cross-promote with other stations in town...anything to help us get the word out. Please let me know if you have any ideas or just simply get in touch with me at the station (317) 227-4122 or visit our website at www.wayne.k12.in.us/bdwbdg.

Thanks!

How about allowing taxpayers to add other programming rather than making it something only a few people at the school system allow on the air?

Hey Chief!! Easier said than done. School boards are made up, mostly, of community "do-gooders" with little or no experience. I would rather try to persuade a prickly zoning board, than I would a school board. After all, it's all about the children......right?

Just what kind of programming would you like to implement?? You into Polkas??

I appreciate your comments, Chief. I was hoping that folks would talk about our Marathon that's up and coming quickly. Perhaps you should start another thread on issues such as this one.

While we're here, I will say that we have had community members approach us with programming ideas and some have actually made it to air. One example is our community talk show School Talk. While eventually, the district hired the community member that hosts the show, the program was a community-school partnership for the first four years of its existence.

We also provide community time as well for community leaders that come on our air. We are out and about at community events, Lions Club breakfasts, job fairs, youth events, etc. I think we're doing a decent job in that regard. I will say that we must look at all requests on a case-by-case basis and decide where it fits in with our educational goals. Our first question is...how can our kids be involved? We are, after all, licensed to a school system and education is our goal. If a resident of our school district comes to us with a proposal, and we can make it work, we try!

Hope that helps.
