Hi Folks:
I mentioned this as an issue a few years ago, back when Sandy Beech was on afternoons. It still seems that certain announcers (like Sandy's midday show), and satellite feeds (like Rush) don't get processed as fully as some louder content like spot loads. I know that some think that AM processing can sound a tad overdone (where breaths become loud, and bassy voices sound quite ballsy.). But I always attributed that practice to giving AM that "big city radio" sound.
I can't believe that it would be a maladjusted threshold setting, because on the commercial stuff that's processed fully, the soft passages are indeed boosted. Or may the threshold is set higher, and since the commercials plays louder, the compressor catches it. All I know is, Bush and Sandy sound really distant and less "full" and "close up".
Anyone else notice this?
