Now I like to fall asleep to Coast to Coast AM from time to time and usually turn on BEN to listen. Is it me does the overnight news guy Tom Connelly work every night? It doesn't matter what night it is I always hear him. No wonder he stumbles so much he never has a day off.

He's definitely NOT Memorex. He's live every overnight.

I'd be interested in hearing more about why Tom works a seven day week. I don't know if he reads this board or if someone from WBEN can comment. I would say he must be willing to do this. I'm sure it's against state labor laws to require someone to work seven days, much less a seven day overnight shift. I have nothing but words of praise for Tom. In the middle of the night, when I have an attack of insomnia, it's good to know that Tom is there with breaking information. That was especially true in early June when overnight thunderstorms moved through the region. Tom was there with information about road closures and power outages. With so many station automating overnight, he's providing a true service. And I'll never forget that it was Tom Connelly who told me that Clip Smith had died in a car crash. It was almost one year ago. I had spent that Saturday at an outdoor picnic, so I didn't see any of the TV coverage, and I didn't catch any radio newscasts. But Tom was there at 1:30am when I got in to tell me about that heartbreaking news. So, Tom, keep up the good work. But take a day off, guy, okay?

Thank-you for being there Live. Someone has to care about local Buffalo info.
Shouldn't have to be the same person 7 days a week, but thanks for being live.<P ID="signature">______________

Overnight news guy... Let's see, if he works 7 nights a week, with overtime he should break $20K this year.

Tom minds the station overnights. He is not a newsman nor an announcer. WBEN is just cheap. He does the best he can.

As for being live, there's questonable value in that when storms are announced as long as 30 minutes after they happen or alerts announced when they are almost scheduled to end. But that's not Tom's fault. As I said, he's not a newsman.
