WBEZ can't afford a studio in Chesterton

Pretty typical for a studio waiver application, and no different than the one they filed for WBEQ/Morris.

I agree in this case. I think the quality of the programming will be much better coming from the main studio than what would come from a local studio.<P ID="signature">______________

True... I don't think WTMX, WCKG, WOJO and WLEY would serve their COLs better if they maintained studios in Skokie, Elmwood Park, Evanston or Aurora, either.

I thought the people at WBEZ were going to put either a studio or an office in Chesterton. Supposedly they wanted to have more involvement around Chesterton, where they had the COL moved to from Michigan City. WBEW still has the transmitter on the same tower with WEFM in Michigan City. As for the CP to upgrade to 50kw with a severely directional pattern to protect WUBS South Bend & WONU Kankakee (both stations on 89.7); I wonder if the FCC would have granted them the full 50kw if they were on a taller tower. I don't even know if they upgraded yet or not, but they're staying on same short tower with WEFM, but only moving up to 243ft from 217ft.

I think a studio in Chesterton with people from Chesterton selecting the programing and producing some local programming in Chesterton would better serve the public's interest.

Obviously BEZ is simply using the FCC regulations to their benefit just like almost every other broadcaster. Still I find the wording of the waiver hollow and sad. I am sure I would have the same opinion reading the waivers from other broadcasters.

No difference today between commercial stations and "educational" broadcasters. I personally don't think they should be the same.

how will WBEZ effect other stations???

How will Wbez affect WNUR 89.3 or WKKC 89.3?
wont that drown them out?

I didn't think about those stations listed. But anyway, WBEW has major nulls ro the east, west, and southwest, aiming their signal north & south. But I see there's not much protection for WHLP Hanna Indiana on 89.9. But it's operated by Calvary Chapel and could careless if that station has any protection from interference. That's my opinion.

Only for people with crappy radios that are closer to WBEW than WNUR or WKKC. Unfortunately, most of the radios people buy deal poorly with adjacent-channel signals, so they will get the strongest signal around 89.3 and 89.5.
