WBFO FINALLY brings Wait, Wait! to Buffalo

Turns out that Jim Rome won't be the ONLY well-known radio personalty/show coming to Buffalo.

The long-running NPR news quiz show Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! will be pulling into Shea's Buffalo on Thursday, April 30th for a 7:30pm show. Peter Sagal, who hosts the show, and scorekeeper Bill Kurtis will be appearing; the rest of the cast for that episode(as well as the celebrity guest)will be revealed as we get closer to the show date.

WBFO-FM, which airs Wait Wait...!(one of the station's most listened-to shows), put in a request to air the show 8 years ago(when the station was still owned by UB; Rochester has had the show twice). Listeners got first shot at tickets for the show($260 donation for 2 tickets, or $130 for 1)...and, based on what I can tell, the show is sold out.

This is great! Public radio has done a lot to bring back the concept of going to a theater to watch a radio show. Back in the 80s, Garrison Keillor did a radio show called Prairie Home Companion in the tradition of the Grand Ole Opry, with a live studio audience. Wait, Wait! is a similar show. I'm not surprised to see it sell out. Keillor turned his radio show into a traveling theater show that sold out all over the country. Once again, how many local radio personalities could do something like this?

Well....looks like we'll have to Wait, Wait.... a while longer.

Per today's Buffalo News, the April 30th show has been postponed for obvious reasons. Senior VP/chief development officer Sylvia Bennett said that because of availability issues, the earliest it can come here is in August. Tickets will be honored for the new date.
