WBFO The Bridge has a new PD

And it's a familiar voice in Buffalo radio.

Per their Twitter feed (@WBFOTheBridge), it's Tiffany Bentley, last heard at WEDG(103.3 the Edge)as its PM driver and assistant PD. Before that, she was at Alternative Buffalo 1077/1047 in the same positions. As the post announcing her hire noted, "When we envisioned the kind of person we wanted who could take The Bridge to (the) next level, we wanted someone with the experience and vision Bentley has. We're ready to make this station bigger and better than ever."

Is there a book or website that gives templates for "new hire" announcements? They all seem to use the same horribly and repetitively dreadful expressions.

Beats me. I'm just the messenger. (Blame Tom Calderone for that verbiage; Buffalo-Toronto Public Media's senior VP/CCO noted that Bentley's experience in the format, multi-platform expertise and connecting with the community made her the best choice to become PD.)

And due credit to AllAccess.com for reporting this on Thursday(10/6)before that tweet came out.

WEDG is advertising for a new PM drive jock. The Bridge sounds like a better fit for Bentley, who's a new mommy. It also resolves a potential nepotism issue at Cumulus.

“The Bridge” is a brand of Sirius XM. I find it hard to believe that would not be trademarked in some way. Many other brand names are.

That's what I thought about Radio One. Then you added "Buffalo."

So in this case, it's WBFO The Bridge. Trademark issue solved.

There is no other Radio One that is trademarked . Radio One, was renamed Urban One before I took over. My version was a play on words. The Bridge is a piece of intellectual property from Sirius. Just like The Wave is property of Audacy….the logo and the name are trademarked in the U.S.

If put a radio station on, and called it “watercolors 96.9”, Sirius would come after you. All you really have to do is check U.S. trademarks. Audacy is right in there with some station monikers

Common names for Radio formats aren't brands. The name alone may not qualify for a trademark. The MOUNTAIN, BAY, LAKE, RIVER, EAGLE, HAWK, WOLF, JACK, STAR, OLDIES, and countless others have been used everywhere by different ownerships. The word "BRIDGE" likely doesn't qualify as a brand name. There's a difference between the word "Cracker" and "CHEEZ IT" or "RITZ" brands...

A quick Google search will find myriad stations named "The Bridge." It looks like SXM may not have been the originator, but more likely a copycat in this case.

Them for a radio station that wants to call themself the Wave or The Pig are trademarked. My FCC attorney sent me the patent paperwork that is current and said to not use the name or logo at all.

You have to look individually at the U.S. Patent and Trademark division, which anyone can, and see.

He sent me the actual filing.

I found it -The Bridge IS Trademarked

Sirius also has FIRST WAVE, LOFT, CLASSIC VINYL, SPECTRUM, and many others. I doubt that they will try sue an HD station in Buffalo over the name BRIDGE...

IF they were reported, they would have to cease and desist. Sorry, but these huge companies trademark a ton of their intellectual property.

YOU said it was not trademarked. It is.

Look up the other brands of Sirius, and yes, they will sue if they find out.

Here's an NYC Christian station using BRIDGE. Surely, Sirius is aware of that one...
Bolt, I am just telling you what I know. Many of the big company brand names are logos are trademarked, and my FCC attorney told me to stay far away from them.

My point is someone could make a big deal out of it, and there will be trouble. Whether or not the company decides to make a big deal out of it is another thing....but they trademarked it for a reason.

The Trademark must be tied to the logo, not just the name.
As I posted earlier, many different companies use the SAME name for formats. You probably cannot trademark the word OLDIES. What happens to these trademarks when stations flip formats? Maybe they get to keep a logo in perpetuity, but not a WORD...

Your wrong.

One of the attachments I posted was for a logo, the other was for a name

WBFO The Bridge has been around a short time, but long enough for Sirius to have found out. There are many stations using the word BRIDGE around the world. You seem concerned, but apparently Sirius isn't...
