Today's New York Daily News reports WBGO Jazz 88.3 Newark switches to HD tonight at Midnight. Is HD the reason for their second bay?

I dunno, but one thing you should remember: the "HD" in "HD Radio" does NOT stand for "High Definition". iBiquity says so themselves in their documentation. IBOC stations which refer to their signal as "High Definition" are violating iBiquity guidelines!

They had their HD on about a week ago, but it's off right now. They must have been testing prior to official launch.

One of the methods of implementing HD is to run into a second antenna. It's a very efficient way to do it if tower space and windload capacity permit, as it does not require a high-level injector and associated losses or replacement of the existing analog transmitter for low-level combining.

Mix 102.7 says "Broadcasting in High Definition HD Radio...WNEW New York...The New Mix 102-7" at the top of the hour.<P ID="signature">______________

So what the {bleep} is it supposed to stand for? Highly Disruptive?

Sounds like a case of *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*.
