WBGO 88.3 audio is very low lately
WAWZ 99.1 No bottom
WLTW 106.7 audio is muddy lately
The Breeze 107.1 No bottom, and very poor compression, just horrible.

Other stations audio

103.3 has always been bad... WDHA nice and loud lately sounding good.

How do you guys rate them?

That's because it's a non-commercial Jazz station. Just like WQXR, very light audio processing is entirely appropriate for their format. Classical and Jazz music enthusiasts both like to hear every instrument clearly and distinctly, with no unwanted change in the tonality. Excessive compression and limiting sucks the life out of these kinds of music, making it unpleasant to listen to, and obviously Jazz 88 wants to keep its listeners, not turn them away.

Dynamic range is what it's all about. I wish XM would
fix some levels ... if you fall asleep listening to one
of the classical channels, you'll definitely be rudely
awakened by one of their lousy P-PPPPPopping liners
that's 4 times louder than everything else.

Example: Would you record a tape of jazz low, The noise level on the playback would be high and full of hiss. WBGO's audio was always loud until lately. Non commercial or commercial makes no differance in audio processing.

They sound OK to me.

> 103.3 has always been bad...

Agreed, I bet they'd get out better just by fixing the processing.

I can't get WBGO as Ocean County's 88.3 WVBH is in my backyard.

I can't get WLTW clear enough to accurately judge them.

I can't get WWZY since 107.3 WPUR is in my backyard, BUT 99.7 & 106.3 The Breeze both sound fine to me.

No, except for the past few months when they cranked it up a notch or two, WBGO's audio was always one of the "quietest" on the FM band. They've just returned it to their normal level of processing. Your radio has a volume control -- just turn it up and you'll easily hear how crisp, clean, and "hi-fi" WBGO's audio is compared to all the other stations on the dial (except WQXR, whose audio is also superb).
