It has always been frustrating trying to hear WBGO, Jazz 88, in southern Westchester County. I was hopeful the signal would improve when they switched last year from a transmitter site in NJ, to midtown Manhattan. But there was no noticeable difference in that area.
What I find strange is that traveling on I95 through the Bronx, the signal is fine. But only about a mile north into Westchester county, the signal abruptly deteriorates sharply, and becomes tough to pull in :-[. I am not aware of any other station in the area which has a signal which changes so drastically just north of NYC.
Does anyone know why this happens with WBGO? Might this be related to a need to suppress their signal in a northeast direction to protect other stations?
